DJ song list help!

My FI and I are in a bit of a disagreement on this.  He wants to basically compile a massive list of everything we want played at the reception.  I, on the other hand, feel as though the DJ is the professional and knows what he is doing.  I would like to maybe pick out 10 or so songs that we love to have played and leave the rest up to him.  What does everyone think?  What are you doing?

    We plan on giving our DJ a list of songs we'd like to hear as well as a list of songs we don't want him to play.  Other than that, we plan on leaving the rest up to him.

    We picked out the major songs (first dance, father-daughter) and the types of music for during dinner and cocktail hour. And we gave him a short list of do not plays. Besides that we let him roll with it. To be honest if your dh wants to pick every song, he might as well use an ipod and save the money.

    I completely agree.  I told him that we are paying the dj enough that we should let him do what he is good at.  Thanks all.  I think I got him to change his mind.

    i am marrying a musician who is into indie rock.
    we are providing a large list of fast/slow/in between songs for the dj to choose from. i am not a big fan of poular music (espeically recent stuff) and FI hateds usual reception music even more than i do.

    we are giving him a loooooooooooong list of "must play" and a short list of "do not play."  i think our long list will pretty much cover the entire 5 and a half hour reception.  we are picky and want to make sure that all of our fave songs are played.  and since we love music, we have a lot of fave songs!
