Vinwood Catering/Cruiseport Gloucester menu tasting--opinions wanted!

I emailed Cruiseport yesterday where we're getting married in April and asked about the appropriate time to schedule the menu tasting--only to find out that they don't offer one!?! WHAT? I couldn't believe it!

They said that we could go to the expo in January where they pass out hors d'oeuvres, but it seems crazy to me that we can't taste the entree options in a menu tasting setting. Have you guys tasted Vinwood? Any recommendations? We were thinking of doing a chicken or beef option, but it'd be nice to see/taste what those were beforehand!

Advice/comments appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I attended a wedding at Cruisport and I think Vinwood catered it. There were food stations and I thought the  food was reallky good! Hope this helps.

Vinwood has a great reputation, I wouldn't worry too much about.  I can see how it's worrisome, but really I've never heard a complaint about them!

We loved them.  I went back to an old post of a wedding we attended to give you the menu that they had.

The couple didn't do a cheese or fruit display.  They only had passed hors'dourves.  Which consisted of:  peanut chicken skewers, crab cakes, scallops wrapped in bacon, chicken crostini, roasted tomato puff pastries, spring rolls and one or two others that I cant think of.

The salad was amazing.  Mixed greens with dried cranberries, some sort of sweet creamy cheese, nuts and an excellent dressing.

They had all sorts of bread and butter baskets at each table.

For dinner there was:  roasted vegetables and potatoes, butternut squash ravioli, chicken picatta and stuffed sole.

For desert to go along with the cake was a bunch of different berries and home made whipped cream.

    Hope that helps!

Maybe I am biased, but I went to a Vinwood catered menu.  The passed apps were great, but the buffet meal seemed rather pedestrian.  All the flavors were bland and made me not want to wast the calories.  The plated salad was very good and the desserts (aka the 15 chocolate covered strawberries I consumed) were delicious.

I'd try to choose entrees that sound interesting.  I also didn't have any of the meat - it looked like it was cooked well and had plenty of natural juices inside it, so I'm sure it wasn't dry.

I'd check their yelp reviews to see if people specifically mentioned dishes they loved or hated.

I got married at Cruiseport in May and trust me, I was as surprised as you were when I found out there was not a tasting.  Luckily we had booked right after one of the expos and had tasted some of the food, but that still didn't make me feel confident.  I was an extreme Type A bride and having to just "trust" everyone that the food was going to be good was VERY hard for me.  Please believe me when I tell you, the food was nothing short of amazing.  We have heard nothing but rave reviews about everything from cocktail hour through dinner.  We are attending a wedding there next year and can't wait to be able to enjoy the food again since we weren't able to enjoy it as much the day of the wedding with all the craziness.  Let me know if want to know about any certain foods.  We had 5 passed hor d'oerves, sushi station, raw bar, antipasto, as well as 2 options for plated dinners.  Vinwood is amazing and you can rest assured you will be satisfied!
