Gatburg, TN cabin rental

Has anyone rented a cabin in the Gatlinburg area? I've been looking at "Timber Top Luxury Cabin Rentals" in the smoky mountains. Anyone that could throw out some suggestions/advice about the area and cabin rentals would be great.

We're going the 3rd week of this August, just the two of us. Interested in anything outdoors/nature like

  • You might get some responses if you post this on one of the local TN boards.
  • Although it wasn't for our honeymoon we took a trip to the area that I enjoyed.  One of my favorite things I did was the gem mine!  It's a little bit of a tourist trap that they will try to get you spend more money having your stones cut and set but we lucked out with our bucket and got a little bit of everything including some especially nice amethyst which I did have made into some jewelry that I was happy with (they were able to ship it to me at home since I wasn't going to be able to get back to pick up my order before I left).  I wish we had more time to go on a nature hike or something but we were there for a football game at the university in Knoxville and didn't get to spend a lot of time in Gatlinburg, but definitely planning a return trip!
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • Hi! I don't usually post on other boards, but I was stalking this, and saw this post and wanted to help you. :) We are also taking our honeymoon in Gatlinburg. We went there 3 years ago for a mini-vaca and had such a great time we decided to go back!

We rented our cabin through "Mountain Rentals of Gatlinburg." They were the best deal I found, and there cabins were great!

    A few things to do:

    1. Go to the Great Smokey Mountains National Park for a nature hike.
    2. There is a small nature reserve near the park., can't remember the name, but if you go really early in the morning you see a bunch of animals!
    3. Horseback riding.
    4. ATVing/ Four Wheeling
    5. Zip Lining
    6. Take a day drive through the Blue Ridge Parkway (Gorgeous!)

Check out this site for more outdoor stuff:

My best suggestion is to avoid Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge altogether. There is so much touristy stuff thats not worth it. Except the Sky Lift and maybe the Aquarium on a rainy day in Gatlinburg the rest of the "tourist" stuff is so not worth it.

I hope you have as much fun as we do! We are going the 2nd week in August!
