  Our price per person for the reception was $130, incl. the tax and service charge. This didn't include the gratuity that we paid for the banquet manager, the head waiter and wait staff, etc. We negotiated the price with a min. of 125 people, for a Sunday night.
  
  The ceremony was $1000 I think for the space and that included beverages like coffee, tea and I think soda.
  
  Your prices might be higher if you're looking at something in the city?

  I'm sure this varies a lot by location, and I live in a pretty expensive area.  I hope Chicago is cheaper!
  
  Our ceremony venue was $1800, which included use of the church for 1 1/2 hours for a rehearsal and 3 hours for the ceremony and photos, an organist, a coordinator, and certain set up/clean up stuff.  In this area, I think that price is average or good.
  
  Our reception venue had a minimum which I think was $6500, which you would easily meet because there is the price of food per person, cake cutting fee per person, linens, and alcohol.  In this area that was a great price, and there was no separate space rental charge.  They also had a coordinator, and included waitstaff, cloakroom, and that type of thing.  Most places I looked at were 8-10K for the space only, before food, etc.  When you price them, make sure you find out exactly what is and isn't included in the price they give you.
  
  That head-spinning sensation is normal when you start planning a wedding and see the prices.

  the church we are using is $950.  our reception is $120 a person for everything.

  I think it depends on where you have it. I know Texas prices are cheaper then up north. Our wedding is $45K for 450 people.
