Rehearsal Dinner venue - Watertown or Cambridge

Looking for a private room for a rehearsal dinner for about 30 people. I'd like to keep it to a max of $50 pp for soup, entree, and dessert (before tax, grat, drinks). And without a ridiculous room fee charge.

Also, is it typical for the private dining menu to be significantly more than the regular menu? I just spoke w/ Upstairs on the Square, and a 3 course dinner that would have been $43 pp from the regular menu would have been $62 for private dining (no choice for first course, choice of chicken or pasta for entree, and no choice for dessert). Plus we would have had to pay $150 an hour. That just sounds preposterous to me.

I've already ruled out Upstairs on the Square (cost), Oleana (cost) East Coast Grill (didn't like the room), and Dante (cost).
I'm waiting to hear from Craigie on Main (which will probably be too expensive) and Catalyst.

Thanks!

  • I'm not sure where in Cambridge you are looking but here are some more places to check out:

    Harvard Square:
    John Harvard's Brew House
    Park Restaurant
    Daedalus
    NuBar at the Sheraton Commander
    The Red House

    Casa de Portugal (Inman)

Porcini's in Watertown is also really good

We have had a rehearsal dinner at Tavern in the Square- Porter in the back room. phenominal food and drinks. We had a slide show made which played on all of the Tv's in the room. Everyone had a blast
  • My friend had hers at Salts in Cambridge.  Food was delish.
  • What about Harvest or Elephant Walk? I believe both have private rooms.

You are looking at some of the best restaurants for dinner, that's probably why it's so expensive.
  • OMG, I forgot I was jut talking to somebody about Gran Gusto in North Cambridge. They said it was very yummy and from looking online it does look like they have a private room.
