steaming your dress?

My dress is satin and does not have any beading or lace.  Can I use a steamer that you buy at the store to get some of the wrinkles out?  I didn't know if I needed to take it somewhere of if I can steam it out myself.

Any advice on how to steam it out would be great.  Thanks!

    I asked this question when I was getting my dress altered by Becky Fowler and she suggested NOT steaming it.  She (or whoever alters your dress) should press it for you and then you should leave it hanging out of the bag.  I picked mine up from Becky 2 days before the wedding and hung it on the back of a door until the wedding day.

    I'm sure steaming it would be fine though and hopefully someone will come on here and say how to do it.

    I think you can steam it.  My dress was silky-satin with beading.  We used a steamer on it and it was fine.

    We steamed mine with a conair steamer that I bought at WalMart. It was really convenient. It did not damage the dress whatsoever.

    Ok so my mom has my dress since I live out of town.  She called the cleaners to see what they said.  They said it would need to be pressed.  She took it to them without consulting me!

    That stresses me out a tone.  I'm just keeping my fingers crossed and praying that it does not get messed up at all.  EEEK!

    Hope it turns out ok!  If they're good, they should know what to do with it.  We just took my dress to a regular cleaner near my parents' house, and it turned out fine.
