Cruise Wedding!

I am in the begining phases of planning a cruise wedding! Is anyone else doing this or have done this? I am new to the knot  so I would  love any helpful tips related to cruise/beach/destination wedding. What has made your planning easier? What are things I need to look out for? We are panning for March  2013, we are booking in Febuary with Carnival, on a 7 day Carribian cruise  and planning to have a beach wedding in Montego Bay or Cayman Islands. Wont be set in stone untill we book, but I will take any suggestions/tips ect! Tell me about  yours! Thanks !

Re: Cruise Wedding!

  • Wow!! We sound so much alike...I am also in the beginning stages of planning a cruise wedding. We are planning for June 2013 and I think were going through carnival also. We are planning a 5 day cruise and having a beach wedding on the Cayman Islands. Everything that I have read says that is very easy to get married there. I have been looking at Simply Weddings for a wedding planner and everything through them looks beautiful :)

  • I am not planning a cruise wedding, but there have definitely been girls on here before that have! Congratulations on your engagement and upcoming wedding!

The only thing I really want to point out to watch out for is that with Cruise weddings I have seen girls actually lose out on their cruise with short notice. Situations like if someone decides to rent the entire ship causes the cruise to be pulled out from under individuals and couples who have booked. That's the only big caution to cruise weddings.

Are you getting married on ship or at a port? I would love to hear more details about your planning!
  • I'm getting married on the Carnival Magic in June. The ports are the same as yours, Montego Bay, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel. We decided to have the wedding on the day we set sail so that the elderly who couldn't go on the cruise can come to the wedding then get off. We are planning on doing a 'trash the dress' shoot in Cayman.

The biggest suggestion I have is to look at cruisecritic message boards. There is a wedding and honeymoon board and the girls on there give would/wouldn't do and an overview of how the day went. There are also lots of pictures.

We decided to get our own photographer. A 'family friend' as far as Carnival knows, because they don't allow 'professional' photographers. All of the girls I have talked to that have done this in the past didn't have any problems doing this.

If you want to ask me any more questions, I'm always hanging around here. I hope both of you stick around. I could use some more cruise ladies to talk to.

  • Welcome to both of you.  I think that we have a cruise bride or two on here.  FI and I looked into a cruise wedding.  One of the reasons why we didn't choose it was because we could not get legally married where we wanted to.  Before you book, ask the coordinator what the marriage and the residency requirements are for your desintation.

Can wait to hear more about your plans!!

  • FI and I leave in less than two months for our cruise wedding!  We chose Royal Caribbean because I have some family members who will not sail with Carnival, but we will have very similar ports (Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman, but Haiti instead of Cozumel).  We will be having a port wedding in Grand Cayman and like Misty will be using Simply Weddings!

I went with SW because they offer almost a full refund if the port gets missed.  JUST A HEADS UP- Grand Cayman is skipped about 25-30% of the time since it's a tendering port, not a docking port, and the waves can get pretty mean.  So before you book with anyone be sure you confirm their cancelation policy!  Also be aware that it can and does happen that they will skip that port even if you have your wedding planned on it, so go into this with a Plan B in mind or pick a port that has a dock instead of a tender as those are less likely to be missed!  But, from what I understand, Grand Cayman is more likely to be skipped in the fall and winter than the spring and very few people I spoke to missed it when they sailed in March.  So I wouldn't count Grand Cayman out for that reason alone if you really love it!

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

Thanks Ladies for all the input! I am very excited! and congratulations to you all as well! We are planning to get  married on the actual beach itself. The 'personal vacation planner' we have been talking to says that they can set me up with a wedding coordinator for either a ship or port wedding. But I am trying to figure out if I should just use a coordinator actually from the island, like at one of the resorts or something. I will deff have to check out the SW  and CC websites. You girls  that are using SW, were they tied into the cruise line or is that something that you did on your own? Thank you for all your help! I look forward to chatting with you girls!

  • Not sure if you're still checking this thread, but SW is not tied in with the cruiseline in any way.  I found her independantly (Google search, emailed three Grand Cayman companies, she was the first to reply AND the cheapest!).   She did promise a refund minus $75 if the ship misses the port so I was confident in booking her.

The cruiselines generally want to get their fingers into as much of your money as they possible can, from my experience.  So if you go through them I'd expect to pay more the services BUT you do get the assurance of having a Plan B with them if something happens.

I am also looking into a cruise wedding on Carnival!!! I am wondering for anyone who has had a wedding on Carnival, how much do the photos cost?! And does anyone have pictures of their onboard wedding? I don't know if I would want the big ship horn in the background!! Any information would help out!
  • I am getting married on Carnival Destiny September 22nd. The photo pkg starts at $499 and goes up to $2000. You can also buy individual pictures but they are priced at $30 for each 8x10.

  • Is there a package that includes the CD with the rights? If I have the rights I won't really want a bunch of their prints, but I am trying to figure out with the CD if it is going to be bundled into a larger package. Thanks for the help!
  • Oh and did they send you a brochure with a la cart items? I have been trying to email the wedding coordinators, but I do not want to lock into for sure doing a cruise wedding to find out later I'm going to be paying so much more than what I had wanted to.
  • Anyone's wedding already held on their cruise ? We are doing the magic 2/3/13. Going to marry in Galveston before sail away
  • Princess cruises can marry you a day at sea so you don't take away from a day in port.  We will be getting married on the Ruby Princess in Nov 2012.  Some great ports and a much better price than RCL but not a party ship like Carnival.
The wedding package pricing on Princess is better than RCL and gives you quite a bit more.  We had originally started booking with RCL but their wedding dept was being changed over to another company and no one could get back to us.  Our agent had to get involved and a whole bunch of other people to just get some answers.  In the end we made the decision to switch cruise lines and it is the best decision we made.
  • FI and I are planning our wedding on the Carnival in April of 2013! We will be married at port in Galveston. I also had the question if anyone knew the photographer would sell a CD with the copyright release so would could do printing at home. This is a big factor for me so if anyone knows that would be wonderful! And to Christina - Congrats! It is so exciting but I will add that I have also heard that the Cayman Islands are skipped or re-dated sometimes...but if you do land it, it is BEAUTIFUL...I was there years ago and it is gorgeous and would be perfect!

  • My FI and I will be married in December on the Glory out of Miami! So excited :D We are doing before we set sail so we could have more people come :)
