Lectors and Q's?

We are having a small wedding. How do we choose lectors? We are getting married on Sat and still have not chosen lectors. How do we pick? Do lectors need to attend the wedding rehersal? I would like to choose my godmother but she is not able to make it for the Friday dinner (we invited all OOT guests to the rehersal dinner)

We invited all the OOT guests to the rehersal dinner, and only my aunt and uncle are making it. I could also choose one of them, but then I wonder if it would be more appropriate to chose someone from FI's side? The only people coming to the rehersal from his family side is his parents. FI has been no help choosing. He has other family on his side coming to the wedding but again, they wouldn't be coming to the rehersal.....

I am trying to figure out how much to tip people at the ceremomy: We donated $100 for the officiant, so like would a $50 gift card be appropriate? We paid $180 for the organist, but I am not sure if they should get a bigger or smaller tip than the officiant? We also paid $75 for the cantor. I was thinking like $25 tip for her.

I need to print my program and the only slot empty is the lectors. YES- I do understand I need to call and make sure the people I chose would be willing to do this for me, but I just want to make a choice first :P

Any help appreciated.

Hi there, fellow October bride!

We asked our Dads since we knew both would be there and both would be familiar with the Catholic mass and have been lectors before. Thankfully, they both said "yes". I would ask someone that has some experience with the mass/ ceremony format. It just uncomplicates things should they happen to not be able to make the rehearsal. If that applies to a ton of people, then I'd ask those you know will be there for the rehearsal.

As for the tipping, I think all your suggestions look fine.

Our fathers were our lectors as well. Lectors can be just about anyone, although I think it's preferred that they be Catholic (but it's not required -- my dad is not). It would definitely be good for them to be at the rehearsal so they can familiarize themselves with the order and what they need to do. Even if they have been to mass every Sunday of their lives, if they've never done a reading, it can be a little daunting to stand up there.

Could you have members of the WP do the readings? MOH/Best Man?

This is what we did. The Best Man did the first reading, and the MOH did the second.

Are you paying the organist directly? If so, I would say that no additional tip is necessary. If they are being paid as part of your payment to the church, I think $50 would be appropriate.

We paid our organist directly, so we didn't give him any extra tip. His fee alone was $350.

We tried to involve people who were examples of faith in our life in the wedding. The first reading will be by my college friend who, though not Catholic, is a wonderful witness to Christian womanhood, second reading is by FIs mother and intercessions are by my grandfather. Each of us picked an aunt to be gift bearers. Another aunt (who was also my confirmation sponsor) will cantor. Eucharistic ministers are (1) a mutual friend who leads weekly young adult Eucharistic adoration and really helped get me back into active participation in my faith and (2) a mutual friend who was on the same retreat FI and I met on and who really lives her life in an awareness of the Spirit.

We are paying the organist directly and are not planning to tip in addition to the $250 fee (which is already $50 more than the regular organist who will be out-of-town on a choir trip the weekend of the wedding).
