I couldn't get a new license without my new social security card? So I am not sure how to answer that one.

I brought my old social security card, my marriage license, my passport, and my birth certificate all to the SSA.

They checked my marriage certificate. I'm not even sure if she checked my driver's license but I would bring it just in case. I did not bring a birth certificate or an old social security card. It was an extremely easy process and it didn't cost anything there.

The form you need to fill out to change your name said to bring your driver's license, certified copy of your marriage certificate and license. The clerk only asked for my marriage certificate and license. I would bring everything though just in case. I find it weird too that you were able to change your name on your driver's license, when I went to the RMV there was a girl ahead of me that they would not allow to change her name because she had only changed it with social security that day. I also recommend going onto the ssa.gov site and printing the form you need to fill out and fill it out beforehand, it'll save you time once you get there.

There is a form you can find online to fill out, if not they have them there right on the counter in my case.  They didn't check my lisence...only my marriage certificate.

As far as the lisence...they just asked me if I went to the Social security office...they did not care to see any kind of proof.

I am going down there today as soon as it stops raining.  I'm just bringing my marriage certificate and Driver's license.  Do you get the card right there or do they mail it to you?

They mail it to you. You can get a receipt printed if you need proof for any reason.

The bottom line is, you should read up and bring everything that is required of you, irregardless of whether or not any of us needed a particular document. The last place you want to be in one hour into waiting at the SSA or RMV and be turned away because you were missing something.

You get a receipt saying you offically put in the request to change it and then you get the card in like a week through the mail.

thanks ladies! i brought my marriage license with me and had my new drivers license and old social and that seemed to be enough.

i was able to get my drivers license without a question which was surprising since my previous trips i've had to bring everything but the kitchen sink with me!

thanks again and have a happy weekend!

They just asked me for my new license with my married name on it, and my marriage certificate. And that was it. I was in and out within 10 mins! =)
