Bridal Shower Nerves

The one thing I dislike about birthday parties, and now bridal showers, is me sitting there opening gifts while everyone watches. I'm not a fan of the spotlight nor people guessing how much I like my gift based on my reactions. Any tips for getting through or around this? If I gush too much, it'll come off as fake/sarcastic gratitude or if I'm not excited enough then I'm not grateful. If it wasn't for all of the deposits being paid, I wish we'd elope.

    Just smile, gush, say, "Thank you!" and then go to the next gift.

    Mine is next Sunday and I feel the same way you do!  I'm just as nervous.  I don't like attention either.  I have no advise - I'm in the same boat!

    HAHA! I agree, very awkward!!  Actually though at Macy's they ask if you would like to "go green" and ask your guests to not wrap the gifts!! As a reminder to some guests, my mom and aunts added on the invitation that in order to conserve our resources we ask that you do not wrap the gifts..... The gifts will be displayed on a table in the dining room.. I have actually been to showers like this and it worked out well... Who wants to sit there and watch me open presents anyway!! Hopefully this helps.. :)

    I am in the same boat as you are... I did not want a shower and it was agreed that we wouldn't do it.. but my FMIL is insisting. Its next Saturday and im freaking out a bit lol. I am painfully shy and i will only know about 4 people there.. the rest are all fiancés family that i either have never met or have only met once and do not even remember their names. This is going to be awkward and im going to need a drink when its over. Thank god my MOH and my mom will be there to help me threw this.. i hate being the center of attention.
