Going to Milwaukee for our minimoon - recommendations?

Hey Ladies!

I am coming over from the MSP boards to see if you guys can help me. FI and I are getting married on the 18th and then taking our minimoon the following weekend in Milwaukee. We have never been there and our main reason for the trip is to watch the Twins and Brewers play on Friday and Saturday night. However, I am looking for suggestions of things to do/see, and places to eat while we are there!

We would probably like to do a brewery tour while we are there and eat out a few fun places.

Any suggestions would be appreciated! TIA and happy planning! :)

Be sure to check out the Lakefront Brewery Tour - it's the most fun one in town.

And head down to the Third Ward - there are a ton of shops and resturants down there.

The Milwaukee Art Museum is pretty neat - I think they are featuring Frank Lloyd Wright right now. (might be over)

And the Cheese Bar on Wisconsin is a great place to get a taste of Wisconsin.

GO BREWERS!

Thanks for the suggestions! I had been looking into maybe going to Lakefront and you are the 2nd person who has recommended it so we'll have to check it out!

I would also suggest doing the Lakefront tour!

Nice places to eat, but more pricey:
Blu at the top of the Pfister (great view of the city)
Umami Moto - my favorite sushi place

Fun places to go:
Wicked Hop - Third Ward
Milwaukee Ale House - Third Ward

Also check out onmilwaukee.com. It is a great website to check out all the fun things the city has to offer. Also check out groupon.com for some great deals on places to eat/drink.

Hope that helps! Go Brewers :)

The tour at Lakefront is awesome.

Too bad you aren't here one of the following 2 weekends - Summerfest starts 6/29.

Some of my favorite "splurge" restaurants - Bacchus, Roots, Lake Park Bistro, and Harbor House.

Other great restaurants - Swig, Water Buffalo, Mertiage, La Mirenda and Cuabnitas. I agree that a cocktail at Blu is wonderful!

The Art Museum just opened a new exhibition on artists from China (the Frank Lloyd Wright show closed in May).

Discovery World is very cool. And it is just fun spending time by the lake - you can rent bikes, paddle boats, and even buy a kite. There are several companies that do boat tours (one is a brewery boat tour that includes Lakefront).

If the weather doesn't cooperate, check out a movie at the Oriental - it is BEAUTIFUL - and if you see the 7pm show on Fri or Sat on the main screen - the old pipe organ gets fired up for some pre-movie entertainment.

Want to run into the Twins baseball team and get picture or autograph?
- The visiting teams usually stay at Milwaukee's Pfister Hotel.

Fun places to dine:
Rock Bottom Brewery - right on the river
Safe House - spy-themed restaurant/night club (although they may have a cover charge on the weekend)
Benihana's - food is made on the Japanese Hibachi grill right in front of you
Graffito - Ryan Braun's restaurant, you can occasionally run into him or other Brewers when they're in town

Attractions:
Milwaukee Zoo - fantastic place to spend the afternoon
Comedy Sportz - improv comedy shows
Historic Third Ward
- dining and shopping
Milwaukee Art Museum - the building is a well-know icon of Milwaukee
Lakefront Brewery Tour - tour of the brewery and beer tastings

haha... yeayeayea. The Twins suck this year but I am just glad they aren't playing as bad as they were the first 2 months. We spent ALOT of money on tickets so I am hoping the games aren't terrible. ;)

Just did the Lakefront Brewery tour recently and had a blast---our guide was great---so like everyone else said, def. check that out if you have a chance! And I agree with La Merenda for food---it's a Tapas menu which means you can get small portions of different things to share, it's a lot of fun and you can make reservations online ahead of time. Molly Cool's Seafood Tavern is also good--it's right on the river. Have a great time! :)
