2 weeks to go!

I leave 2 weeks from  tomorrow and I just woke up in a bit of a frenzy. I had a couple decide they could come last minute this week, which does not sound like a big deal - but I have been feeling a lot more nervous about everything this week.
Work has been super stressful AND I got a horrible flu last week which literally stopped me in my tracks so I could not work on the things I wanted to.
Word to the wise: give yourself a ton of time to complete DIY projects, etc. I know most people are smart and do that already, but I put things off thinking I had plenty of time - but here I am 2 weeks out and I am scrambling to finish a few things (I was not planning to be so sick for almost 2 weeks- but who accounts for that?!). GAH! I had not finished my welcome letter/brochure...yikes! On a good note our wedding is small, but still...I thought I would be a bit more calm.
I also decided a while ago to not stress about how to get my dress on the plane, but now I am. I thought I would just try and bring on the garment bag and if they hassled me I would bring a carry on duffle and roll it up into the duffle to get it through. Is this a bad plan?AHHH! haha I am a mess today.

Ok...phew I feel a little better venting on TK boards. Thanks! I am going to work hard this weekend so I have some peace of mind. Happy Friday!

  • Thtat stinks that you were sick for so long, but I am glad you are better now.

Maybe try to figure out what you really want to have and what you could live without in regard to your DIY projects. You will already have a beautiful setting so although the little details can be nice, they are not worth getting too stressed over.

What airline are you flying with? I flew with Hawaiian Air and called just before my flight and they said I coud bring it in a garment bag as my carry on. And luckily on my flight from PHX to HNL the plane had a closet and they hung it up for me, but I have heard their planes generally don't have closets. Otherwise I was prepared to lay it over the top of the overhead bin. Good luck with everything!

  • Thanks Lorena224. I am flying Alaska and I called and they said that the closet is for first class guests and that a standard garment bag is too big for a carry on. :-( Did you get a smaller one for the flight?
  • Are you getting it steamed when you arrive? I shoved (ok rolled) my dress into a wheeled carry on size luggage & used my travel steamer i brought. Worked out fine & it was nice not having to lug around a big garmet bag in the airport.
  • Sorry you haven't felt well. Hang in there you are almost there. Very jealous about that part.
Funny I was just thinking that it's my work at home day and I could do some DIY but I have time. Then I read your post and now I am rethinking that.
I think we all have moments of "frenzy". Your plan for your dress sounds fine. Other brides have mentioned that the Alaska Stewards have hung their dresses for them even if they were in coach. Hope you have a better Friday and a good weekend.

I flew Alaska and they put my dress and another brides dress in the first class closet.  They can't guarantee that they will be able to put anything in there, hence why they can't tell you that on the phone - but it will work out.  If anything, just lay your dress on top of the bags in the overhead compartment.

AKWinterBride - thanks for that info!

I'm leaving a week Sunday...yay! My plan is to carry it on and ask to hang it in the closet. If not I will try to put it in the compartments above. I did hire a seamstress to steam it when I get to Hawaii. I hope the don't ask me to pack it in my suitcase. I'm also worried about it.

  • No, I did not get a smaller garment bag. They told me the one my dress came in would be ok. It was a little annoying having to carry it around, but all our checked luggage and our carry on were packed with stuff so this worked the best for us. Also my dress had a jewel design on it that looked like a belt so I really didn't want to roll it up and possibly damage it, but if it didn't have any jewels I think I would have stuffed it into a carry on if possible.

I hope they understand and let you carry it on!

  • I think I am going to risk it with the garment bag and see what happens. I am feeling much more calm this weekend. :-)

    Thanks again!
