videographer

Help! I'm looking for a videographer that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Any recommendations?  I really only need the ceremony filmed.  Should I even bother?  Or have a friend use their video camera?

I used TK's list as a starting point. Another website I found helpful was the Baltimore Videographer's Association website (the ones we've talked with have been willing to travel for the work if you're not in Baltimore). They have a list of all their members and you can check out websites. I've seen several that list ceremony only options and you can always ask what the cost would be to do just that if they don't list it on their site. Also, if you find one you like that ends up being unavailable for your day, ask for recommendations. That's how we found the company we will probably book with. Also talk to your other vendors (photographer, venue, etc.) and check their websites as they may have listed people they've worked with before.

What is your price point?  I am using Always & Forever video - http://www.alwaysandforevervideo.com/

We are paying around $750 for six hours.

We really only wanted it recorded for posterity, so I wasn't willing to spend much on it. I found a videographer who charged $350 for 5 hours, she used two cameras for the ceremony and then a shoulder-mounted camera for the reception. She was quite professional during and leading up to the event.

It doesn't include any editing, it's just the footage on disc (which we could have edited by someone else later, if we really want to). She doesn't do it as a full-time job, and since my wedding was only two weeks ago, I haven't actually seen the video, but if all you want is a recording for archival purposes, you should check her out!

Tell them up front you don't want any editing done.  Just a single camera, and the footage just placed on DVD.  We got our whole day filmed in New Jersey just outside of NYC for 400 so I would think around here you should be able to get something similar.  I edited the video myself on my Mac.
