Changing your name?

Hi everybody! Forgive me if this has already been discussed, but I have been comtemplating what I'll do about changing my name after the wedding.  I will definitely take my husband's last name, but I'm debating whether to keep my middle name, or use my maiden name as my new middle name (as my mother did).

Re: Changing your name?

  • I'm a traditionalist, so I'm bumping my maiden name to my last name, and taking my FI's last name.

However, I'm contemplating keeping my maiden name professionally (doctor) because his last name is Hispanic, and I don't speak one word of spanish!! I wouldn't want patients to come to me expecting a hispanic doctor and get a pasty redhead!!

    Still pondering....
  • my last name is going since its so common i dont really mind getting rid of it!
  • I have a last name that is extremely difficult for everyone to pronounce so definitely changing my last name to his.  I'm definitely not going to miss having to repeat my last name and spell it out on the phone 8 times before the person on the other line gets it right.  I don't have a middle name though so I will just make my last name my new middle name.  :)

  • I decided a couple weeks ago that I'm going to take his name and use my maiden name as a second middle name.
  • I want to hyphenate my last name. His last name is too plain and boring lol (Hunt). He just wants me to take his last name only and get rid of my maiden name.

  • I'm keeping my name.  I never considered changing it.

  • Remember, if you're changing your name and going on a honeymoon where you'll need a passport...change your name after you get back.  That way you won't need to buy a new passport with your new name before you go.
  • I'm changing my last name. Nola, I'm like you (if you decide to change your name)--a pasty brunette with a Hispanic last name.

Definitely keeping my middle name and getting rid of my maiden name entirely. I actually considered changing my name a long time ago to disassociate myself from my dad, and now I can do it, and if he finds out, he'll just think it's because I'm getting married.

  • I am actually pretty attached to my last name and it is pretty long. I have no desire to get rid of mine. FI wants me to change it and take his. I am willing to compromise and hyphenate even though it will make my last name 15 letters long. He isn't too keen on the idea. We'll see!

  • I think I'll probably wind up keeping my middle name, and taking his last name.  I also have a last name that is a bit tough to pronounce and spell, and I love the idea of having a simpler name!  At the same time, though, I'm a little sad to be giving up the name that I've lived with for the first 30-something years of my life!  I supppose it's just something that will take some getting used to...
  • I was going to have two middle names (middle name and maiden name) but I think i'm just dropping the maiden name all together.  I love being mylastname, but it'll just be easier...

  • Everyone in my family has always moved her maiden name to be her middle name... I didn't realize that not everyone did this until I had a coworker keep her middle name.
