is this vintage?

I bought this dress. I'll be getting it dyed a creamy ivory (hopefully, because it's currently white and I hate white) and getting the sequins on the very top removed while keeping the pearls. I'll also be wearing my mother's veil (which is lovely and is all trimmed in a wide band of lace) and maybe getting a train attached. What do you think? I'm trying to maintain my rustic/vintage look.

Re: is this vintage?

  • it's a beautiful gown and it looks vintage remake to me! you can always dress it up with vintage jewelery ot a head peice! and make it your own!
  • Thanks! I'm worried that it's too 'glam' and shiny.
  • I wouldn't say that it is vintage but if you add lace and old pieces, you can still get an antique look.

  • looks a bit glam vintage 30's hollywood, the right jewelery and a vintage hairstyle would one hundred percent sell it!
  • It looks pretty modern to me. Anything strapless usually has a pretty modern look, in my opinion. But it's very pretty. You can add lots of things to "vintage" it up though. Birdcage veil would be really pretty, or vintage inspired jewelry. Lots of possibilities.

  • Okay, here's another question. Do you think I should get another dress to wear at the reception? I'm in love with this other dress that's very bohemian (way more my style than this one). It's not a lot of money, I just keep dwelling on the fact that the money I would spend on the dress could be another night spent on our honeymoon.
  • I think it doesn't look vintage, but you can add elements to it to bring it into a more vintage wedding style.

  • I'm so caught between just leaving it all alone and wearing it the whole time; getting it altered to look more like my vision and wearing it the whole time; leaving it alone and getting an amazing reception dress; or getting it altered to match my vision and still getting an amazing reception dress.
My fiance does want to go dress shopping with me, but I suppose that that doesn't mean that I have to get a reception dress. As you can see, I'm just pretty baffled by what I should do.
  •  Is a 2nd dress that you wear for a few hours more important than a whole day of honeymoon? Why do you think you need to change part way through? That says to me that you have not found "the dress". I would look till I find the dress that makes me happiest.

  • That's why I want the second dress, because I can feel free to choose the dream I love then. The dress I have is really more for my parents (I never gave my wedding a thought until we got engaged and my parents have a more 'traditional' vision than me) and it does look amazing. I just want to have a more romantic feel during the reception. I'm going to go dress shopping with my fiance tomorrow and we'll discuss it. I'm just really uncertain about it. Obviously Tongue out
  • Don't wear a dress for your parents, wear one for yourself.  :)

I love it so much! Allen and I talked it over and we decided that it won't be a problem to spend the money. It was between this one and another one that he picked out that looked fantastic on me and was very vintage but the black sash didn't entirely go with our wedding and I love this one. Mine looks like a darker color than this though, which is rather odd. But I'm so excited, I love it!!!
