Powell Gardens

I've been chatting with my mother about possible sites for ceremony/reception and she came across Powell Gardens.  She's in Nebraska, and I'm in STL, so this is going to be a by-internet-search for a while.  Before I get too excited about it's pretty pictures - is there anyone out there that has checked this place out or used it?  What were your experiences and personal pros/cons?
Thanks in advance!

It's beautiful there, to be sure, but it would, of course, depend on the season.  The chapel itself is rather small...don't recall the capacity, but it wasn't enough for us.  It'd also in the middle of nowhere so if you have lots of out of town folks, they will have a long drive out there and back afterwards as there isn't anywhere very close to get a lot of hotel rooms.  JMHO.

I think the chapel only holds around 50-60 people, if I'm remembering correctly.  It's absolutely gorgeous though.  They also have pretty high minimums to meet on weekend days/evenings.  If neither of those are concerns though, it's a beautiful place for a wedding!

How many guests are you thinking?  We might be able to offer some suggestions for you.

Thanks ladies!  Honestly, I'm thinking our max. would be 200..hopefully.  My entire side of the guest list would be from out-of-town though, so the drive is a good point!  I do like the look of it, and the chapel looks GORGEOUS! We haven't nailed down a date, but I'm thinking spring, early summer (my dates are set by when I can get tulips in bloom!) :-)

The chapel is gorgeous, and at that time of year would be lovely, but I really think it is going to be way too small...we were planning on 150 (and now it is higher) when we were looking and we didn't even bother going out there to see because it was just too small and there is just no getting around that.

Are you wanting to have the wedding in a particular part of town?  Also, do you want to have the ceremony and reception at the same place?

Oh my goodness ladies - I'm sorry for taking so long to get back!  Thanks for giving me some insight!  Well, as I said in my intro - we're not actually engaged, but we've began talking about little details, and some big details - and I figured I could start getting some ideas on places.  We talked about it some during our car ride home the other day and he ideally would like to get married at a church.  His childhood church closed down just recently and was located across the street from Arrowhead stadium, but we discussed the possibility of  having it at his grandma's church, which is near her house.  She lives around US71 and E 39th St - so, IN Kansas City.  So we'd probably try and find some place to have the reception that's not too far from there for our of town guests.
I'm sorry, I know I don't know much yet and I'm pretty unfamiliar with the town still, but I really appreciate all the responses!

The Chapel holds 120 and the Rose and wine Vineyard could hold 200. For the receptions, the Grand Hall does 150 with 200 cocktail style and with the Multipurpose Room Rental and the Garden Fountain area it would hold 150- 200.
Heartland Harvest Garden open last year for the vineyard and outdoor reception, 12 acres of beauty for the evening. It would do 200.
Also the rates are most reasonable. Check out the web site.

DON'T DO IT!!!  I worked there for a season and it's beautiful, but they charge way too much for the rental of their facilities and the staff is sub-par because it's located in the middle of nowhere.  The drive is absurd as well.  It's a good 40 minute drive from Lee's Summit--not convenient for anyone.  They are also very strict about what they allow you to do for decorations in both the chapel and the reception halls.  This place is beautiful but lacks class.
