Time to register is getting close....

So the 6 month mark is approaching very quickly and well I think time to register is around now...or close enough hehehe.

FI and I are starting from scratch...so we need anything and everything! If you think it, I'm sure we need it!

So what do you think would be the best places to register? A few family members have asked and I say Target....and if not everyone HAS SAID "NO don't go there!!!" They share their horror stories with me, not being able to return things or wanting to give them $10 credit for a slow cooker and if they went on the sales floor to purchase it it would cost $50! I mean stuff like that makes me a bit hesistant. Or getting so many duplicates of things cux Target would never remove it from their list! and then NOT getting full credit like $10.

I know I REALLY want to register at Williams Sonoma...but I know they aren't everywhere so I thought another store that might make it easy for everyone like Target I mean they are in every corner.

Any suggestions?

    My favorite registry has been Amazon by far.  I got the most from Bed Bath & Beyond but I haven't tried to return anything yet so I don't know if they suck about it.

    Never even thought of Amazon...Undecided the only thing with that is most of my family are very old fashion (not so up to date with technology) So I think going to a store is best for some family members!

    I second BB&B, they have everything there (we started from scratch as well) and it turned out great! We also registered at Target and did NOT have any trouble with them at all! So not everyone has bad luck. It just depends I guess. I know its a lot but we also registered at Macys. They have so many cute stuff and have great sales so it worked out really good. We got our china set from Macys and loved it. Well I hope this helped. :)

    We registered at 3 places.  Bed Bath and Beyond, William sonoma, and Crate and Barrell. We did this because he and I have very different tastes, and it was very helpfull to be able to have some variety.   Bed Bath and beyond and william sonoma have been (by far) the easiest for us to work with.  Crate and Barrell has been a bit annoying.

    I had to convince my husband on BBB, but even he agrees they have been wonderfull.   they had all the same things macys had (including china pattern), and a lower standard price.   In addtion they have the coupons your guests can use.   And give you a year to complete (with a 10% of discount on anything).   we are also going to a complete your registry party on march 20th - they will offer you 20% off anything on your registry that day....including the brands that are usually excluded from their coupons like kitchenaid, and crystal.  woo hoo!  We have retunred items without any trouble, and unlike other places they will give you the option for cash back.

    William Sonoma is also wonderfull, but they are more expensive, and obviously less common.   They are also very easy with returns, and also give you a 10% on anything you want to buy after the wedding from your registry.   It is anytime you want to buy something throughtout the year.

    Now to crate and barell - they have recently changed their registry policies....so beware.   They now only give you 30 days on returns for registry items.   This is the only store I am aware of that does this.   Trust me - you need more than 30 days.   My husband and I wanted to wait and see what we got to determine which items we needed from our priority list.   Also your shower will be close enough to your wedding date, that you realistically don't want to be chasing the clock around this time.   Crate and Barell also gives you a discount to complete your registry, but it is a one time use in the store, and one time use online.   This is tricky obviously because usually you are broke for a bit after the wedding (at least we have been).

    We have had enough difficulty with crate and barell that I am now adding everything I can to my BBB or william sonoma registries to complete with them.   Their policies are just much more realistic for the busy bride. (IMHO)

    We actually also originally registerred at Macys, but based on stories on the knott and an experience my Mother in Law had, we switched to BBB.

    We registered at Williams-Sonoma, Macy's & Crate & Barrel.  I thought that they were all very easy to work with. I actually really liked Macy's because they give you a percentage back on everything that was bought off your registry. So, about a month after we got married we got a $200 gift card from Macy's. That was super nice. The only thing bad about Macy's is that it takes FOREVER to return anything. It seems like all the sales ladies have the hardest time giving you money back, but it wasn't terrible. I LOVE Williams-Sonoma. We got most of our gifts from there and mostly everyone bought our stuff directly from the website. Crate & Barrel was great too but we didn't register for much from them.

    I've heard really good things about Bed, Bath & Beyond and Bloomingdales too. You might as well register at Williams-Sonoma because you get 10% off of everything on your registy after the wedding, so you should do it just for that Laughing

    Oh yeah, I also forgot to mention that BB&B gives you a 10% off coupon after your wedding so that you can go buy stuff you didnt get.  I went this weekend and saved $80 dlls. Not much but something is better than nothing.

    WOW !!! What great info...well FI and I will pow wow and figure out where we should go.

    I had NO clue you get some type of percentage off AFTER the wedding. Target surely doesn't do that :D

    We registered at Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma and Macy's (for the people that couldn't easily make it to the other 2).  I had good experiences with all 3.

    Like you, we're pretty much starting from scratch too.  My Fi's parents gave us a few hand-me-downs with regards to pots and pans;  everything else is on our registries.  We ended up registering in four places: BB&B, Amazon, Target, and then Cutgo.  We didn't go for china or crystal because I have a pattern I have been collecting for the last 10 years and my mom is giving me her crystal(which she never uses).

    We chose Target because we have alot of older guests who live in rural Minnesota and that was the store they had in the town that didn' make me want to pull my hair out when I filled out the registry.  I started to do a Walmart registry but I got so frustrated trying to put stuff on it.  We have a lot of windows in our new house and I needed to put a bunch of curtains on the registry.  I wanted to have the same type of curtain in various sizes, the Walmart registry creator would not let me do that.

    So far Target has been really good.  We received two gifts from that registry already without any issues. 

    Bed Bath and Beyond has also been very good.  The bed linen set we had on that registry went into clearance so I wanted to go ahead and buy it.  The problem was that the store I went to in Illinois didn't have the set in a Cal King size, so what they did was they looked into their computer system and found a store that had it in stock.  It turned out to be the Northridge store so I just called my parents and had them pick it up.  I am very pleased with them.

    We put the largest ticket items on our Amazon registry because I am relocating out of state that seemed to make the most sense.  That way everything gets shipped directly to where we're going to live.  The nice thing about an Amazon registry is they have a "universal registry" button where you can add any item from any store onto your Amazon registry.  For example: originally I wanted to get a kitchen aid stand mixer at Amazon, but I noticed Costco had the same one cheaper.  I didn't want my guests to have to pay more just because it's from Amazon so I used the universal registry button and added the link to Costco.  I did the same thing with the table I saw at Cost Plus:  I added it to the Amazon registry so if one of our guests wants to get it, they can.

    The Cutgo registry was an after thought.  My Fi's cousin works for them and she got paid for getting a bride to register with them--so I registered just because she asked me to.  I am not particularly crazy about anything I put on there.

    I loved doing the registering online, it makes it easy to add things to them so you don't have to do it all at once.  Thinking about all the stuff that you need can get overwhelming very quickly so doing it online gradually is much easier.

    From my experience...

    we did BBB & Macys.  We received a ton of BBB gift cards, so I returned a bunch of items we received b/c they give CASH back (at least they did last year).  Then I turned around and purchased them again with our gift cards.  We took the cash and put it in our house upgrade fund (we want countertops, etc.).

    Macys was good b/c people like to shop at Macys.  I had trouble returning stuff there at one location, but all in all our experience was ok.  

    I also say NO to Target :)

    Like CurlyGirly Girl we did BBB & Macy's. They were both great & still now get offers from things on our Registry that are still available. We didnt have to exchange anything, but we didnt get any double of the things on our list, so they were great =P
