question about tipping the caterer

I'm a bit confused on how much to tip our caterer. i read on the tipping etiquette to tip 15-25% of the total food and drink fee, so our total bill was $ 3400 and our food was $ 1350. do we just go off the lower amount? (we had 4 servers + the captain). any thoughts would be helpful, thanks

Our caterer included tip in the contract and it was only based off of the food costs. Otherwise the tip would have been figured off of staff wages, tax, linen rentals, etc. I think it's just like when you go out to eat, you don't top based off of what your server was paid by the restaurant for the time you were there or their other costs, just the cost of food. At least that's how I reasoned it with myself for it to make sense! So I would tip just off of the food cost, although you can always do more if they deserve it!

If gratuity was not already included, then you really should only tip on the food and alcohol (if they served any). 15% would be the lowest, 20% to a server means they did a good job.

So if the tip is included, should we still give a little extra or is that all there is to it?
