Anyone REGRET having a videographer?

My fiance really does not want a videographer for our wedding.  Personally, I'm "on-the-fence" about the issue.  I think it would be nice to catch the moments I'll inevitably miss, but I'm concerned that 20 years from now it'll just be a $2000+ piece of out-dated video footage sitting at the back of my closet.  Has anyone hired a videographer only to regret the expense later?

I'm on the fence as well.  A few cousins of mine were married in 1999 and 2002, there videos still look pretty good.  I guess it depends on the price really, if we do end up getting one we will keep it around 1k.  I'd love to hear if anyone does indeed regret  having one?

This is just my opinion but I am really excited about the idea of having a videographer.  When we first started planning our wedding we watched videos from my FI's sisters and brother. I wasn't at their weddings (they were 8,9,13 years ago) so it was really nice to get a glimpse into their days.

The selling point for me was, you put so much effort and energy into the wedding its nice to be able to re-watch/re-live it from different angles for years to come.

If you are looking for a reasonable videographer we are going with Jeff Harper (http://jeffharpervideo.com/index.html). So far his been a great vendor to work with!

Having your own film (you and your husband as the super stars) is the best ever! I guess it also depends on the choices of cinematographers. There's different styles now! I am planning a Cincinnati reception for my husband's family soon but I already got married in Hawaii last month. We were suppose to get married in Cincinnati and was going to choose Poetic Cinema to shoot the day but we decided to move the wedding to somewhere sunny (on Feb)! Anyway, it's truly worth it. Check out my video:

So if your budget allows it... GO FOR IT! It's so much diiferent from just a lifeless photos. You can relive the genuine loving feeling (if you choose the right cinematographers). Promise.

if the price is bothering you, save money by hiring a videographer for the ceremony only or pay for just the raw footage and edit it yourself (or a tech savvy friend)

Look into Brett Hatfield...he did mine and it turned out great. We paid way less than $2000 too. Let me know if you want more info.

DH and I originally didn't want to get a videographer for pretty much the same reasons you mentioned, but about 3 months before our wedding I saw the video from one of my friend's weddings (done by Matt Pine with Lifetime) and I really wanted one.  DH was still kind of on the fence, but I told him that I really wanted one so he agreed.  We ended up using Matt and it really was one of the best decisions we made, he was glad we did it after the fact.

And also, I think the videographer you use makes a huge difference.  Matt did an awesome job making our video and trailer, so much so that we didn't even want the raw footage.  But we saw the video from a friend of ours (who used another company) wedding who got married a couple months after us, and while the video was okay and did document the day we were both SO GLAD that we chose to go with Lifetime.  It really was one of the best decisions we made related to the wedding!
