Birdcage veil

Just got a birdcage veil, and it was squished in the package. What is the best way to reshape it?

I'd use steam to get the wrinkles out for sure. If that leaves it too floppy, you should be able to stiffen and shape it with some spray starch. Hairspray also works in a pinch, but could make it yellow with time, so it should only be used for a last minute (like wedding day!) fix.
  • ditto pp, one thing about bird cages if they are the french knit you can leave them clothes pinned from the clip to a hanger and they will just smooth out
  • Thanks for the advice!

  • You should steam it over a rounded shape-- use a bowl if you don't have anything else. Place it over the shape, steam it lightly, and let it sit there until it has fully dried. There should be no need to hairspray or starch it unless it had some type of stiffener added in the first place.
  • I found my bright purple bird cage at a thrift store, extremly wrinkled in the bottom of a hat box, and I steamed mine in the dryer at home.
i have a shoe rack for the dryer, placed wet washcloths under a bowl on the rack and my vail on  top of upside down bowl.
make sure you turn it on low to med-low heat thought, and check it after about 5 minutes, if its extremly wrinkled like mine it may take up to 15 minuites or more, but just keep checking..
