Question about pay, how would you say this?

I am salaried and also get commissions. So if a potential employer is asking what I get paid, do I just put my salary plus an average or estimate in what I also get for commissions for the year? Or do I just put one number down that includes commission? I want to include it somehow since it's part of my total pay for the year, but don't want to be misleading about my salary or anything, either. Any thoughts?

If it doesn't give you a place to list additional information, I would just do an average of what your commission is and maybe note "salary includes average commission." If your commission varies a lot by month, I would say Salary is X,000 plus X% commission of sales/business.

Absolutely tell them about your commissions however you feel most appropriate. You most def want them to take that into consideration, esp if they are substantial.

I would be very direct and upfront that you earn a salary plus commissions. If you want to, you might include the past few months of commissions instead of an average. But either way works.

I wouldn't include your average commissions in your salary. I would make it very clear they are two separate amounts.

Assuming you want to get a new job that pays equal to your current job (including commission), I'd definitely include your commission in your current salary.

Starry, why would you make sure they are two separate amounts as opposed to one total, as most of the others seem to be suggesting?

I think might seem misleading otherwise. If the potential employer calls your current employer to check your salary, your current employer likely won't include your average commission in that number so you seem dishonest. I know you aren't trying to be but I could see how it would look misleading to a potential employer so I would rather be safe than sorry.

I make all commissions so I just put what I made the previous year.
