Dessert and Wine

We are planning a 1:30 wedding and don't plan on having a full meal.  We were thinking of a chocolate fountain that includes all sorts of fruits, candies and treats to cover with the chocolate.  Then also having a wine bar with an array of wines, cheeses and possibly crackers.  Is this enough for an early afternoon wedding? The wedding and reception will be outside in a large tent in the middle of September. I would love some feedback and/or ideas:) Thanks!

Is 1:30 the ceremony or reception start time?  If ceremony, then what time would you expect the reception to start?  Lots of people choose not to serve full meals at their weddings to save money, but it should definitely be known to the guests.  I would definitely do cheese and crackers.  And maybe some type of other appetizer.  Then the fountain takes care of a dessert.  But you should put something in your invitation like "Reception with light fare" or something like that.

It's perfectly fine to serve just desserts, if that's what you want. Just say "desserts and drinks to follow" or something to that extent. I like mixing savoury with sweet myself so also vote for something like fruit, crackers & cheese!

Just a word of caution on the chocolate fountain.  They are very messy.  I was at an event that had 2.  There was too much traffic around them and people kept bumping into each other.  As a result some very nice gowns ended up with chocolate all over them.  Also, your hands end up covered in chocolate.

you could also add a tray of petite sandwiches, if you wanted something a bit more substantial or toast in addition  of crackers for the cheese

We had a chocolate fountain at our wedding and had no problems with mess.  We had pretzel rods to dip, and mostly everything else was on skewers so people didn't have to reach in or anything.  The only problem we had with ours was that I think it may have been set up too late, so a lot of people didn't notice it was there.  But everyone who did loved it!

My friend had a chocolate fountain and everyone loved it! She had fruit, marshmallows, pretzels. Just be sure to put on invitation that it is a dessert and wine reception!!!

You guys are such a HUGE help!!

I could see where I could be hesitant about a mess from the fountain, however the service that I'm planning on using stays there and attends to everyone’s needs so there will always be someone helping out with the chocolate who knows what they are doing. :)

    Thank you!
