Bridal Shop Registration fees

Has anyone experienced bridal stores wth registration fees just to try on a dress?? I am in a wedding that is not local, but need to find a local store to try on the bridesmaid dress for sizing. There was only one main store in my area that carried the brand the bride has picked out. I went to the store and they wanted to charge me $25 to try on the dress (if i was buying from the store it would ultimately go towards the cost of the dress, but since i was not it was just a fee to come in their store). I checked the store's website and found that their poicy to "ensre customer service" is to charge a fee. Since when do we pay retailers to offer cusotmer service to potential customers?!? Warning for brides in NC - stay far away from the Bridal Boutique of NC in Cary, unless you don't mind paying for customer service.

  • I have never heard of anything like this before.  Seems questionable to me...  I certainly wouldn't have paid it!

  • I have never heard of anything like that! They don't even make you pay when you test drive a CAR, let alone try on a dress! I think it is laughable that they say that is to ensure customer service. HOW!?! How terrible.
  • I wouldn't have paid it.  You shouldn't be paying them to look at dresses for your wedding, that you are already spending a bunch of money on.  If you were buying your dress there it wouldn't be that bad, but not everyone buys from the first store they go to.
  • I know that Jon's Bridal in Tampa charges a $25 appointment fee. If you cancel then it gets charged to your account or something. That way they don't have a bunch of no show appointments.

  • Never heard of a fee to try on a dress!  I guess that's why it's good to stick to a bigger name store.  I got my dress at David's Bridal and love it!

  • I can imagine they would put this in place if they were having a problem with many people coming in with no intention to purchase.  It takes time away from brides who are serious about purchasing a dress, which can end up in a lost sale.  Also for those who couldn't get an appointment because they were booked, goes to another bridal shop and buys there.

I myself would not go in any shop that I had to pay $25 just to get in the door.  If they didn't have a dress I liked, I would be ticked to lose out on the money!
