Bretton Woods- Morris Plains

So I think I am pretty set on Bretton Woods Mansion in Morris Plains for my venue. Has anyone been there for a wedding or had their wedding there? I really LOVE this place and I hope you ladies have some good insight!

The 2 positives about the place were the low price and the deck/backyard.

I have them on my short list for a fall wedding, I also love the house and the grounds.  Our quote is $105 pp for a Friday night, minimum 125 ppl, comes to $120.75 pp with the 7% tax and 8% gratuity.  My only concern is the quality of the food, I haven't been able to find/get any positive recent reviews of the place.  A friend from HS got married there and absolutely raved about the place, but it was at least 7 years ago.  So without the benefit of a tasting before commiting I am hesitant (I only found two places that would do that - Bridgewater Manor and Primavera Regency).

i went to a wedding there 2 years ago. although i loved the overall feel of the place, i felt that the cocktail hour was lacking and the dinner, i couldn't even cut my steak it was that tough. maybe the person who's wedding it was chose not to have a big cocktail hour but overall, i wasn't pleased with the food. i would ask for a tasting beforehand

hmm well he quoted me $90 pp for a Friday afternoon 7% sales tax and 8% gratuity. I love the grounds and just the overall feel so I don't know. I am always concerened about the food with any place, but if it is really bad I should try and re-consider. But the price is sooo right!

Have you told them how close you are to making a decision and that the one drawback is the food? and explain that other spots do tasting? I'm wondering if you push them  a little they would concede to a tasting since it seems like a small price to pay to get your business...I'm a stickler for customer is always right attitude : )  Overall though I think u should go with your gut instinct...good luck!

We went to a tastng there and the food was great. We were almost going to have our wedding there but we chose Meadow Wood Manor instead. But  Bretton Woods was a close second.

The guy that runs the place was a real turn-off to us.  But we felt like the inside was like a funeral parlor and the ballroom was not elegant. The outside was nice.  The prices we were quoted for summer 2010 was $85pp.

Deener- my best friend got married at Meadow Wood and I liked it but the ceremony area was too small for me.  Did you just ask to do a food tasting?

Reilly- I met with the guy who runs it and he seemed really nice to me.

I still have several places to visit, but this place is perfect for my budget.

I just wrote a review about this place - but not sure where it went - so wanted to post something on here as well.  I recently held a baby shower at Bretton Woods and had a chance to check out the venue - it is GORGEOUS.  Love love love that they only have one event at a time and the entire mansion is at your disposal.  The service was incredible - specifically Judy.  She seriously is one of the best event coordinators I've ever worked with.  She made everything flow smoothly, even made announcements for us to help everyone navigate to where they needed to be.  She made decor suggestions.  I mean, anything we needed, she was there.  Please don't think twice before booking your events at this venue.  It is perfect for wedding - so perfect that I even considered changing my wedding venue!
  • Inka - The original post is FOUR years old.  Appreciate the fact that you want to write a review, but it's best to start a new thread rather than dig up an ancient one.
