Ranging price for Videographers?

I have just begun my wedding videographer search. The first guy I got in contact with says to film the wedding would be $900, editing would be $565. A total of almost $1600--almost as much as I'm paying for my photographer!

This seems awfully high, but after some research I'm finding that most average packages are close to a grand. I was not expecting to spend this much on a videographer! 

What are some price ranges you guys have come across? And if you have any recommendations--please, PLEASE post them! I don't need the fanciest cinematographer ever, I just want a good, solid videographer with reasonable prices. Thanks! :)

    hey, david kasdan videography has pretty reasonable prices, at least i think so. i know the travel to parts of wisconsin, so you should check to see if they charge extra for that, but according to their web site, their lowest package is around $600, including both filming and editing. www.davidkasdan.com

    I would expect the videographer to cost about the same as your photographer if they are good - they have REALLY expensive equipment (camera, mikes, editing software) and then there is there time on-site and editing.  My FI owns his own video production company (he does not do weddings) so I know the "behind the scenes" costs for good equipment.  If they are charging under $1K I would question the equipment they use (professional vs. consumer grade).

    We used JC Designs from Waukesha and Jaime was fantastic!  She does a professional job and has a variety of packages to choose from to fit your needs (at reasonable prices).  She was recommended to us and we are 100%  satisfied with the quality of her work and service.
