What Kind of Wedding Are You Having?

Ok, I stole this from the Oct 11 board but I loved it and thought it would be interesting to see what you had to say!

It is crazy how different peoples weddings are, especially when watching 4 Weddings.  Some are $5000 dollars, some are $1,000,000.  Some are 25 people, some are 500.

So let's hear about your wedding in a few sentences...

In a few sentences... mine will be a traditional Lutheran ceremony at my home church then a fun party with a seated/plated meal for 350 people in a local ballroom. We'll have a DJ and the party will continue until midnight! Budgeting around $10,000 for everything except my e-ring and our honeymoon.

    I like this post.

My wedding will be an outdoor ceremony right on the Mississippi River. Colors are Dark purple/eggplant, champagne, and ivory. We will have dark purple hydrangea pomanders hanging on shepherd hooks along the aisle, then move them inside to sit on wooden pillars as centerpieces at the reception. The ceremony is completely non-religious/secular, but I think still beautiful. The reception is at the same location inside. Probably around 150 guests. Chicken, walleye, or vegetarian pasta for dinner; white cake for dessert. DJ dance. hosted beer, wine, and rail drinks. No head table or tosses, but we will have an anniversary dance. Party ends around midnight. Total budget including airfare to and from MN for us but not including e-ring or honeymoon is $15,500.

I'm excited to see other people's wedding summary. Smile

My wedding will be a nondenominational wedding with the ceremony  at the Landmark Center, then the heavy appetizer reception with a DJ at a local bar's banquet room.  We're expecting about 100 guests.  We are on track with a $10K budget, excluding the engagement ring and honeymoon.

Mine's a non-religious ceremony in the restaurant of a golf course where the reception will be as well for 100 people. We're customizing our own buffet and FI's cousin's DJ company will be providing the music! Our budget is around $10K.

We had a generally religious, slightly non-traditional wedding. We wanted it to be a fun, casual gathering of all our friends and family without the pressures of a 'real' wedding. Our full budget was about $9k, and more than half of that went to food/booze.

My wedding will be outside on the Mississippi river on Cinco de Mayo with fun bold colors of red, aqua, and some pink. We are having 16 attendants total (which is crazy, but oh so fun) and are planning on dancing the night away after our BBQ and salad bar buffet. The decor will be simple and shabby chic. We are planning on spending around $17,000.

We're having a mostly traditional Lutheran ceremony at my grandparents' church with a few of our own twists thrown in for fun. Our 110 guests will then head over to an upscale restaurant for a cocktail hour on the patio followed by a sit-down dinner.  A number of DIY items will make the recption more personal. We won't be dancing, but we hope to encourage guests to linger and catch up with old friends and family. We will probably be spending close to $15,000, not counting rings and an eventual honeymoon.

    Aw fun!

We're having a personalized ceremony with influences of Christian tradition intertwined.  This will take place outside on the steps of our historic venue with a fantastic view of beautiful fall leaves overlooking the St. Croix.  We will then head inside for a casual meets classy reception complete with personalized decorative touches in charcoal gray, orange, and eggplant to go with a fantastic comfort food buffet, alcohol a plenty, and enough dancing to make you wish you brought your tennis shoes!  Budget is $15,000 not including honeymoon.

Mine will be a Christian wedding in a church my family attends. We want a classy feel with a few fun touches. We are having between 250 to 300 guests with a nice sit down dinner and a fun dj to keep things lively. We are blessed to have a 15,000 dollar budget to work with thanks to my parents.  We really want our day to show and represent who my FI and I are as a couple through little details throughout the day. <3

Our wedding is a non-denominational wedding. Our ceremony will be outdoors on a terrace at a beautiful golf course. My pastor who is marrying us is a very special element for my family and I, because he was my father's pastor, and he did my father's funeral. The reception will have a modern, yet soft feel. A lot of the aspects are DIY, and unique, which I love. There will be around 200 guests, and we haven't decided if we will be having a buffet, or sit down dinner. We're excited that Midwest Sound is doing our ceremony music, and will be getting the party started, since they were voted Best Of MN 2011 :) Our parent's have not given us a budget, which we are very fortunate, but I do not think we will spend more than $20,000 to $25,000, which does not include the rings, or honeymoon, because FI's aunt and uncle are paying for our honeymoon :)

Our wedding is tulle and monogram free! A "vintage" picnic at a park, 90% hand crafted even down to the beer, food and cake. Secular, rich in character, untraditional and fun but not so off the wall my grandma won't know what to do. The whole shebang is well under 5K, music, dancing, photo booth, family, friends and the great outdoors.

Wow... is Steph really the only married gal who has answered this thus far? We're so outnumbered these days ;-)

Our wedding started with a mostly-traditional, non-denominational Christian ceremony on the front steps of the Historic Washington County Courthouse, from which we had a gorgeous view of fall settling over the St. Croix. Our reception, just upstairs from the ceremony, had a 'comfy vintage' appeal that fit the nature of the venue - elegant but not stuffy or overstated. We filled our guests' bellies with food from the nationally renowned Brasa Premium Rotisserie and cupcakes from the aptly named St. Paul bakery, Cupcake (as well as plenty of beer, wine, and champagne!) Despite being a Sunday wedding, our DJ kept the dance floor pretty lively until well past our usual bedtime ;-) Our total budget was approximately $12,000.

P.S. MrsBassPlaya, I LOVE the fact that at least on the surface, our weddings sound soooo much alike.

We had a small intimate ceremony at the Sunken Garden at the Como Conservatory where I spent a lot of time when I was a kid (I grew up near enough to walk there).  My childhood pastor married us and was given the task of "keeping it quick!"  Our ceremony was "traditional" but in an untraditional way; we had a total of 12 people there including the BP.  There was no way to cut the list off at a good point to make everyone happy so we kept it small.  That being said, our families and friends LOVE to pary so we had your typical 200 person reception.  Our videographer created a highlight video of our vows to show at the reception so that our guests still could feel like they were a part of that portion of the day.  Our reception was elegant and unique - we had German influenced food for our October wedding at the St. Paul Hotel.  After dinner though - it was a rockin' good time with dancing until midnight and a photobooth who's props were the highlight of the night.  I honestly have no idea how much we spent - my parents said to plan the day like we wanted and they'd tell me if I needed to reign it in.

Great post! :) I really enjoyed reading all the different ideas that are going into (and did go into, for the married ladies) every wedding.

We are having a winter wedding with (hopefully) a classic, elegant feel. It will be a Friday evening (7 pm start) ceremony at the Landmark Center. There will be a dessert & light food reception to follow in the same location. We will have a dance, but I'm probably not going with many of the "traditional" aspects ie dollar dance, bouquet toss, etc. We will likely have a father/daughter dance type thing though. The guest list will be about 175 at its max, and the budget is hovering around $12,000 not including e-ring and honeymoon.

What a great post!!!!! I love seeing the variety!

We are doing a Catholic-inspired outdoor wedding at The Woods Chapel in Orono followed by a reception at Golden Valley Golf & Country Club for about 260 guests. We'll be doing 2 readings during our ceremony, the Lords Prayer and a sand ceremony (we're using sand from the Namekogen River - where my FI grew up, and Lake Minnetonka - where I grew up). I'm super pumped for our String Trio. We'll have them playing during the ceremony, but not traditional songs - they'll be doing Coldplay, Dave Matthews Band and Landon Pigg. :)

Our reception at GVGCC is more traditional. Lots of baby's breath clouds all over and a FUN dance!! Can't wait for the party! We're also doing a Snow White sort of "fairytale" theme with green apples as place cards w/ flags w/ guests names on them. (We got engaged at an apple orchard on 10-01-10). I bought vintage children's books that start "Once upon a time" and end "Happily Ever After" from antique stores in Southern MN that will be scattered around. I'm also SUPER excited about our cupcakes. Spice cupcakes will be on a table near the candy bar.

Overall, it's a very outdoors-brought-indoors wedding. More interested in everyone having a fantastic time and dancing the night away! Our total budget is $35K.

Keep posting! I love seeing all of these ideas!!!

*Update: our colors are sage green, dark purple, grey and white. :)  forgot to include that... hehe

We will be having a 30-45 minute (hopefully closer to 30) ceremony in a newer Lutheran church in Maple Grove- fairly traditional but I do intend for more modern elements with the music selections with Patti Griffin, Norah Jones, and whatever else I come up with :) Our colors are champagnes and golds with red flowers, which I think will work well with the fall leaves.

We will then head to a golf course in Ramsey for a elegant, classic, yet super fun cocktail hour, dinner, photobooth, and dance! Oh and budget is probably around 15K. I have stopped paying attention and adding up all the little things- we are in a good position financially so not worried about it.

It's so great.  I already told you that I LOVE LOVE your boquet.  I have Brasa catering as well.  Hopefully our wedding ends up being just as lively as yours when it's all said and done.

That's SO awesome that you're using Brasa too! I never really thought there was such a thing as finding the "right food" for a venue... but there's something about Brasa's food that just fits so well with the low-key elegance of that venue.

P.S. I assume you've been working with Ash, Brasa's catering manager... in which case, tell her MaryBeth says hi :-)

We are having our wedding at a lutheran church, lasting about 25 min! Colors will be pale yellow and grey, and 5 attendants. We want to keep things classy (but I love disney, so want a bit of princess flair!)  Disney themed centerpieces, prince and princess cake topper, potential light up dress if my FMIL can finagle something that lays under the tulle of my dress for our first dance...and a hip hop remix for the father daughter dance :)  We are keeping all the same traditions of first dances, garter toss...during the bridal bouqet toss...I am having my florist loosely combine 4 "smaller" bouquets so it explodes into 4 when tossing it into the crowd! :)

    Another married lady here maybe!
We had a fairly traditional military/religious ceremony in a methodist church with a few of our own touches and had a more formal sit down dinner reception on top of the IDS tower. All the Air Force guys were in uniform and the gals in long dresses so it felt elegant but not stuffy. I think our final guest count was about 115, and our budget was around 25K.
