registering for expensive items...

I'm really torn about this.. I really want china and place settings and FI wants durable corelle plates that are b o r i n g. what should i do?? dont laugh, but are we too young to register for china?? i don't think being old, rich and throwing lavish holiday parties is a necessarily a prerequisite for owning china, but i feel weird registering for it lol

    Don't feel weird registering for it! As I keep hearing over and over, register for different items in different price categories. Having fine china in the house is such a great thing to have. Even if it only comes out once a year, once every two years, it's still such a lovely set to have. When you're gray and old and laughing with your grandkids at a formal dinner, the china (and other things of course) will bring you back to your wedding day. You're not too young!

    We felt the same way - we also didnt want to register for two sets and get two incomplete sets so what we did was register for everyday white at Bed Bath and Beyond for the basics and we chose a casual china set from Nautica that is white based so we can actually mix it in with the everyday stuff if we want - we still didnt get complete sets of either but at least its all mix and match~

    I say go for it...my brother and his wife registered for both regular everyday set and a china set a mikasa and they got both... So far they have only used thier china set for anniversary dinners they have had just the two of them...but its so pretty and a great thing to have!

    I say do it! A fine china set is great to have, especially if you plan on entertaining or to use it like Evelyn says, for anniversaries. You are never too young for the finner things! :-)

    Agree with pps, you should have all price ranges on your registery. Give your guests some options. In the event that you are either missing settings or don't get any, most stores will give you a discount on any items left unpurchased on your list.

    i say register for both .. it will give different people options for price ranges. The china is actually the one thing I told FI we HAVE to register for since I don't think I would ever end up buying it on my own, and I feel like it would be nice to have for special occasions.

    I was having the same dilemma when we registered.  I really wanted nice china, but also didnt want to end up with an incomplete set.  So we ended up getting the Mikasa Parchment pattern.  Macys had the entire set for $400.  Its beautiful and we use it every day!
