Re: EXPIRED

  • Personally I'd probably cut it out, unless you are comfortable paying that. Seems like a lot of money for 21 minutes! Will this be a very memorable part of your day to you and FI to justify it..?

  • Can you include any recorded songs?  If so, I'd let the "band" play the songs they know and have the other songs (in the order you guys created) from your ipod/cd/laptop.

$750/3 musicians = $250....that's what each musician charges at my church too. The vocalist at the church requires someone to accompany her on the organ/piano....my mom wants to add a harpist.  IMO, I think that's over the top, price wise.  We're not allowed any recorded music, so I feel the $500 is the cheapest way we can go.

  • I'm paying $750 for a DJ for 5 hours of music... yikes! I don't understand why they wouldn't have sent a list of songs they can play, so you're able to pick from there? Maybe you could go that route, ask for a list so you can see if you can find something that works for you there? Can you do a DJ?

  • We're paying $500 for unlimited time from a 5-piece jazz band, but we also live in Iowa, where things are generally less expensive. I think that $750 for less than an hour of music is ridiculous unless they frequent Carnegie Hall.
  • As PPs have mentioned, it seems really pricey - but it's dependant on your area. Did you check around with other musicians to see if their going rate was competitive?

We were planning on having a cello/violin duo during the ceremony and reception during the meal but when I really started crunching numbers, we decided that the money to have them perform during the reception as people are eating is much better spent on another hour of photography (something that lasts forever!) and the honeymoon.

I'm a a little bit sad, but it cuts our fee from $470 for the whole shebang (3 hrs total of playing) to $240 for the ceremony only. I really don't think our guests will miss the extra playing during the meal as they'll be chatting and catching up anyway. The $240 just wasn't worth it to us when it came down to the nitty gritty of it.

It's all about priorities. If you want to spend your money on musicians, great! Go for it! But if you're concerned the money could be better spent elsewhere, rethink your plans (if you haven't signed a contract - we didn't, which is how we were able to change our plan).
