  Is he walking down by himself? If he was walking with the ring bearer, you could call them both ring bearers, even though that's not what he's doing. 

  
  

  Other than that, I honestly don't know what you could call him.

  Put him next to he ring bearer, call them both ring bearers? That's what I'd do if I had two little boys!

  You could put something like "Introducing the Bride - His Name".

  He would be called a Herald. A herald is a messanger who carries/proclaims important news. "Hark, the herald angels sing?" Anyone??? I think this is a little old fashioned though. Why not call him a signbearer? It's a pay on ringbearer and sounds cute.

  Yes, herald is the correct term.  I also like "introducing the bride" as suggested above.

  Is this something he really wants to do, or is this something you decided on for him so he'd have a role in your wedding regardless of his own feelings?
  
  If it's the latter, I wouldn't do this at all.  It's very cutesy, and if he really doesn't want to do it, it'll show.  Nobody will be moved by it.  Small kids are not good actors.
