Balancing Act

I'm sure most of you know what I'm talking about- trying to balance classes, work and time with your FI, and friends.

I'm a Graphic Design major and I have a total of 30 hours a week of classes, plus homework. Along with working on the weekends at a restaurant. My FI has two jobs at the moment and we only see each other 3 nights out of the seven day week. It is quite stressful at times but I know it will be all worth it in the end. After having my internship this past summer I almost feel like life after college will be a lot easier, work 40 hours a week and the rest of the time is mine! :)

Anyone else in similar situations?

Re: Balancing Act

  • I totally get this.. I'm a nursing student and work at a nursing home 2nd shift/every other weekend so we only see each other 4 nights a week which isn't horrible but it's not fun either. And sometimes when we do have nights together (like tonight) we are both too exhausted to really spend time together.... example: he is sleeping on the recliner next to me, has been for the past 2 hours, and I'm sure will be out for the night until he leaves for another long day of work tomorrow morning Frown

I envy couples who both work normal M-F 9-5 jobs and get every night/every weekend together. I honestly can not wait until I put in my 40 hours and have the rest of the time for us.
  • Most definitely. It's really rough. I'm just doing my best to get through everything. My fiance and I make time to see each other every night, which usually results in not a whole lot of sleep, but it's worth it. If I didn't have that time/him, I'd go crazy, I'm sure.
  • I completely understand.  I go to school full time and waitress through the week.  FI is also in school and works during the week.  I am lucky if I see him more than 1 day a week.  Its terrible. I am off on Sundays so that is really the only day that I see him.  He is done with school in December and will only have his internship left.  That will help to where I get to see him more than once.

Totally get what you mean. Or some nights we have together I'm stuck doing homework for the next day. :/

  • Omg I know... homework/studying can take up so much time that we would otherwise have to spend with each other. It totally sucks :(

I am so glad you posted this because these past couple of weeks I've been feeling kind of depressed about it and it's good to hear that I'm not the only person in the world feeling like this. It's like either I'm at the house alone or he's at the house alone. At least our dog always has one of us around since we're on opposite schedules lol.

Sigh... I just can't wait to be his wife without the added stress of wedding planning, vendor meetings, diy projects, etc on top of school.
  • I completely understand how you're feeling.  I'm a 1L.  I'm taking 6 classes and I get about 2-3 hours of homework per class per night.  So yeah, having any kind of a life is a huge balancing act.

  • Completelly agree!!! I'm going for PharmD, working and planning the wedding soooo stressed!!!
