Card Box or....

Is everyone doing the traditional cardbox or something else.

We're having a small outdoor wedding(20 people) and I wasn't sure what I was going to use, until I randomly stumbled upon a beautiful seashell at Homesense like this where cards can be put in the opening :)

Re: Card Box or....

  • I like that shell, if it is big enough maybe you could fit about 10 cards in it??  That might work - do you have any other themes that you could play off of?  We are using a mailbox and I got a custom sticker with our names and wedding date on it.

  • We are having a card box.  I like the shell though!
  • I don't actually have a picture of the exact shell, but that one did the trick. I tested out how many cards it holds....25 :) So it's perfect
  • I decorated a simple cardboard box. Pic is in my siggy

  • My mom has a pretty ivory bird cage that we may use.  I just need to see if it's big enough for cards!
  • We are using a big antiuqe birdcage and we will decorate  it.

I like the shell! As long as you don't have any "security" concerns-I know some people on this board unfortunately have relatives with sticky fingers.

I like the shell idea as long as its big enough - very creative!  We ordered a little present looking card box from Oriental Trading.  My sister liked it too so my mom's plan is to use it when she gets married too.

  • I just bought a nice birdcage that won't allow the cards to be pulled out the sides (unless someone takes the lid off or turns it upside down!).  My FMIL is going to paint it for me as soon as I find what color paint I want.
  • If the shell doesn't fit, we bought a wooden lobster trap that would match the beach theme.
  • I really, truly love that idea; it's very unique. I won't blame one person but if you factor in that our wedding is having 100+ guests, upward to 50 staff as well as vendors in attendance, there's no accounting for everyone. I would just prefer to stay safe rather than sorry when someone inquires about a thank you note for gift cards we didn't receive.

I'm having a birdcage like MichelleAG05 that can only go one way; there's ribbon, card and a latch to get through it :)

  • The 20 guests at our wedding will be parents, grandparents and siblins...so, I'm not too concerned about theft or anything. But, for a larger wedding I probably do the birdcage idea too
  • We are using a large clear glass jar with a lid. Think oversized cookie jar. I am etching a "P" on it. I like the idea it's unusal and can also be used later for either a cookie jar or something else.

We'll use a basket with some letters cut out and strung across it.

What a great idea!  Love it!  (We're doing a traditional card box... mom and sis volunteered to make one so I suppose it will be a surprise the week of the wedding)

I love that shell idea, especially since it's very small and doable.

I totally forgot about something for cards.. crap.

  • We're doing the birdcage.

At my first wedding, I had several cards stolen.
  • I really like your idea to use the shell. It's a very unique & creative twist.

I'm surprise to hear that people had cards taken! How awful.

Any suggestions on where to look for a bird cage?
  • Yeah, I never would have thought it would have happened.. we had 0 suspects on who it was.. just really, not a clue.. but my great aunt called my dad when she didn't get a thank you note after the wedding.. said she'd give us several hundred dollars, cash, and asked if we got it.  We had not.  After that, we started asking around a little (as best we could without looking crazy!) and realized we had several more missing!  I felt terrible because I had no way of knowing how many people I had accidentally snubbed out of a thank you note.  My parents and his parents kinda spread the issue through word of mouth so people would realize what had happened and we wouldn't look like jerks!  It was such a headache.
