Registries

FI and I were thinking about going to BB&B today to register. Is this something you need an appointment for? Or can you just show up? I see that you can set it up online but we would rather go to the store, FI would love to use one of those scanners!

Re: Registries

  • We made an appointment but I'm sure you can just walk in.  You may just have to wait a few minutes if there is another couple registering until they can help you get it started.

  • We just walked in to do ours.  We waited about 5 minutes for the woman to help us, but then she literally walked around the entire store with us to set it up which was amazing.  Through the aisles she actually gave us her honest opinion about certain products, as well.

...I had honestly never thought of making an appointment to set up a registry, I thought it was generally just something you walked in to do.  That's good to know, though, thanks for asking, and thanks for the responses!

Also, I know a lot of places allow you to set things up online, but I would strongly recommend going into the store regardless, even if it's just to check out some of the things you're putting on there.  Especially anything fabric, I want to know it's something I'm going to like and want before I say I want it!

  • We registered at Crate and Barrel and Macy's, not BBB.  I asked the same question before registering and all you had to do was walk in.  I figured there would be a ton of people registering because it was the week after Christmas but surprisingly there wasn't.

My only other advice is that if the salesperson tries to talk you into something, you can add it to shut them up and just delete it when you get home.  For example, we really liked bedding from Macy's and our sales woman talked us into the 800 thread count sheets.  When we got home and looked at the registry, a fitted sheet alone was $180 so we changed it after.  The towels she recommended were also $20/each for a bath towel.  We didn't want to push her away too much in case we had other questions so we just added it to make her happy.  Overall we did have a great experience though.

    Have fun!

I never set up an appointment for our registries.  I just went there with my FI and we waited only a few minutes.
I liked being in store to register for most of the items because I like to see things in person and touch the towels, linens, and that sort of stuff.  However, now I just monitor my registries online and added a few things here and there that it doesn't matter if I see it or not like candles when I know I like the scent.

I think that's the great advantage of registries these days; it's so easy to add anything and everything that catches your eye, and delete things later.  If you add sheets on a registry at one store, and find ones you like much better at another store, online management makes it super easy to compare online and delete your "second choice"!  The only downside is that it still takes time to manage.  I'm excited for this though, it fills my deep-seated desire to walk into a store and "buy" anything and everything that I want...

  • We just showed up at BBB. Our person just showed us around the store and told where everything was located and how the registering gun worked. Then they left us alone to create our registry.
  • I would maybe call ahead if you're going on a busy day or time of day otherwise you can just show up.

Just an FYI it takes alot longer than you would expect so plan for at least a few hours :)
