  I am a transplant here in San Diego, and my first year was from a tourist perspective - so I LOVE telling people things I enjoy here (I also live in the Gaslamp Quarter) so I walk just about everywhere to enjoy:
  
  Good Eats:
  - Tin Fish (lunch or dinner in the Gaslamp Quarter)
  - Broken Yolk Cafe (great breakfast!)
  - Mary Janes (at the Hardrock hotel)
  - Rockin' Baja Cantina (Mexican)
  - D*ck's Last Resort (you gotta have a sense of humor)
  - Heavenly Cupcakes (for your sweet tooth!)
  - Smashburger
  - In and Out Burger
  - Basic Pizza
  
  Things to Do:
  - Hornblower Bay Cruise (1 hour or 2 hours)
  - Seaport Village/Embarcadero (great shops, touristy sites, restaurants)
  - The Midway (take a tour on a retired US Navy aircraft carrier)
  - The San Diego Zoo
  - Balboa Park (right next to the Zoo) - it's beautiful and has museums and so much to see in a day)
  - Sea World Theme Park
  - Point Loma LightHouse
  - Go to Coronado (by Ferry or drive the Silverstrand). Ride bikes or tour the beaches. Hotel Del Coronado is also there. Great history and very beautiful!
  -Mission Valley Mall or Horton Plaza Mall
  -Check out Old Town, Del Mar (if you want to drive that far) and any of the Beaches! (Ocean Beach, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach)
  -And if you are in to Bars:  Analog, Stingaree, Quality Social
