who pays for Flower Girl dresses?

I'm totally new to this and don't know any etiquette.  Does the bride pay for flower girl dresses, or the Flower Girl's family?  Thanks!

Re: who pays for Flower Girl dresses?

  • The parents of our flower girls paid for their attire.
  • Generally, it's the flower girl's family that pays for the attire but their budgets need to be taken into consideration if this is the case. If you are able to pay, it's always a nice gesture.
  • The flower girl's family would pay. We found a dress that fit our FG's mom's budget, and chose that one. We ended up paying the cost of alterations, though that's not necessary. Our mistake was picking a dress that required a lot of alterations - making that part just as expensive as the dress itself. So be sure to take that into consideration when dress shopping :)
  • The parents pay for the FG gown.

My SIL made her daughter's gown, cream silk with a sash in the same material of the BP skirts.
  • Since your wedding is next June, you could wait until they start having Easter and First Communion sales. You can usually find some really cute FG dresses for half the cost of a bridal shop.

My SIL found a gorgeous First Communion dress for $40. A similar style at the bridal shop was $130.
  • I bought by FG's dresses, but that's because they $25 Target dresses during easter season that were perfect for our wedding. Both sets of parents tried to pay me back.

Totally agree with this and I was married this June so I know it's very easy to go this route. I had two flower girls and one of them actually wore her first communion dress as it just so happened to work out to be the same year. I just added a yellow sash. Voila flower girl.

[QUOTE]In Response to who pays for Flower Girl dresses? : Ask the parents of the children in the WP what their budget is for attrie.  Find attire in that price range.  Or let the parents find something apropriate themselves.  Little girls - a dress in the color you'd like.  Little boys - suit/tux or pants and a top depending on how formal you want.

Ditto this. We had 2 boys and a girl, all in the same family. The boys wore the tuxes the guys wore, so the family didn't really have any "say" in picking that out. But, I SIL picked out the FG dress so she could find something she liked that was in her price range. She ran some options by me so I guess I had "veto" power.

Also, because the entire family was in the wedding (2 parents, 3 kids), we gave them the free tux from Men's Warehouse that typically goes to the groom. We figured they were spending enough, so that gave them a little relief.
