Steelers

My fiance is a HUGE Steelers fan (I am too, but not nearly to the length that he is)..  I'd like to incorporate as much Steelers into our wedding as I can, while still keeping it elegant.  We're going to do Steelers save the dates .. and probably going to do "black and gold" for our colors. Has anyone incorporated anything Steelers into their wedding that may be able to give some suggestions?  I was thinking of  a favor... but, nothing to pricey.  Grooms cake, for sure.  Any other suggestions?

My DH is a gigantic Pens fan so we incorporated some hockey elements into our wedding. We had:

-Custom jerseys that people signed as the "guest book" (had our last names on them)
    -Hockey pucks as escort cards
-Table numbers were pictures of us holding jerseys to give the number
    -I had a Pens garter
    -DH wore Pens cufflinks
-We entered to the Pens theme

It was enough stuff to make him feel represented yet not enough for the whole wedding to scream "hockey!"  HTH!

I might do this for our weddding (because I'm a huge Steelers fan as well.. along with like 99% of our guests).  I'm going to tuck a Terrible Towel in my garter (so the towel is between my leg and the garter), so when he goes in to take the garter off during the reception, he'll be surprised to see the towel there too, and I'm sure he will be waving it around after he takes the garter off!

My brother and SIL just got married in Oct and did a pittsburgh theme for their wedding (not necessarily steelers, but moreso pittsburgh) They had:

    - the skyline on their invites
    - black and gold skyline on wedding cake
    - had the pirate parrot come to the reception!!!!!!
    - had an ice sculpture of pgh skyline
    - named tables after places in pgh

just to name a few things... GL!

Great ideas!  My favorite thing that we have decided to incorporate so far is our save the dates... We're going to have custom jerseys made with our names, and the numbers are going to be our wedding date.  Taking a picture of us from behind to make the save the dates... then, we're going to have the wedding party (at least) sign the jerseys so that we can later frame them in our "steeler themed" game room.

I have previously seen terrible towels with either peoples names and dates imprinted on them, or just a towel made to look like the terrible towel with names and dates on it.  Anyone know where I could find a place to do that?  I'd love to get those for the bridal party.. or at least for the fiance.

We're from Kansas City, but my fiance and are HUGE Steelers fans and we are doing a "steelers" themed black and yellow wedding. Instead of having people throw rice or rose petals as we leave, and as a surprise to him, I made "terrible towels" with our names and wedding date on them. I thought it would be cute to have everyone wave them in the air as we entered the reception as well. We just found yellow towels (I think they were shop towels, and I think we found them at Sam's club) and cut them in half, and then made a stencil of "terrbiel towel" and our names and wedding date and used SPRAY fabric paint (found at michaels or hobby lobby) to paint them all! They turned out amazing! I wish I had a picture to show you, but unfortunately I don't! They are also doubling as our guest favors... We're going to tie a little card to each one that explains what the terrible towel is and what it stands for - since unfortunately everyone around here is Chiefs fans! They were fairly inexpensive to do since we found the towels at Sam's Club... We're also having a Steelers groom cake.

I LOVE the idea of using the jersey numbers as table numbers! How creative!

I love your terrible towel idea.  I researched this a while ago.. on places I could have something like that made.. but couldn't find anything good.  Never even thought to make my own stencil and then a fabric spray paint!  What did you use to make the stencil?  GREAT idea!!  I'd like to do something like that at least for our wedding party.

This is funny!  My fiance and I are getting married in New York this year, and the Steelers will also have a big presence in our day, without making it seem more like a Superbowl party than a wedding.

Got a deal on a box of 100 Terrible Towels, and we are going to have our names and wedding date printed on them.  we found a place that will screen the info on, here in NYC.

I am planning to have a Steelers logo cake for the rehearsal dinner.

When I was recently in Pittsburgh I saw some ADORABLE Terrible Towel cookies at the Bethel Bakery.  They said with enough time, they could make quite a lot of them for an event.  The price was firm  - I think it was $2.50 each, because part of the proceeds goes to the school that holds the license for the towels.

I wanted those cookies for my wedding but they don't ship them.  You would have to ship them or pick them up yourself - totally worth it if you can get there.  Bethel Bakery is the best.

We're going with Black and Yellow (Gold) as our wedding colors.  My bridesmaids will be in black with yellow bouquets.  The Jr. Bridesmaids in white and yellow dresses with white/yellow bouquets.  As a native Pittsburgher, I not only associate these colors with my favorite team, they are the signature colors of Pittsburgh and I am proud to have them take center stage on my big day.

It's very cool to know that there are other crazy Steelers couples out there!

We considered asking our guests not to wear purple...  ;-P

They are being stored at my Mom's house so I'm waiting for someone to get home to take a picture for me so I can post it on here!! :) To answer your question though, my mom works at a school and once we made the stencils out of thicker paper, like cardstock and posterboard, she laminated them and we just used an exacto-knife to cut it back into a stencil! It sounds like a lot of work, and it was, but it was all REALLY easy... and they turned out awesome!!

I really love BURGH2NYC that you want to ask people to not wear purple... That's awesome!! I'm watching the playoffs game right now.... UGH, I am about to turn the TV off!!! LOL

The last wedding that we went to had a Penn State ice sculpture.  I thought it was a nice touch that hinted at the couple's favorite team, without overwhelming the entire reception.

Hey congrats to M+ who seems to have just had her big day!  Hope it all went great for you.

My wedding day is in less than a month, and we are full-on black and gold decor without going over the line into all-out Steelers stuff.

Our biggest nod to our favorite team is having our guests wave Terrible Towels at the end of our ceremony and then again when we're introduced in the reception.  Hee hee!  I can't wait for that moment.

We have black favor boxes with gold lettering, inside are 2 gold wrapped Lindt truffles and 2 black wrapped mint truffles.  (white chocolate and dark chocolate)  A gold foil seal will keep the boxes closed.  If you buy the Lindt candies in bulk they are more affordable than if you buy smaller bags.  We bought 4 boxes of 120 candies, and it was just the right amount.  Cost for the candy in that volume was about $140 or $35/box.  You can buy boxes of as many as 500 pieces of candy and the woman at the Lindt store told me that the bigger the volume you buy per box the more you save.

We went for gold personalized cocktail napkins with black lettering (our names and wedding date).

Bridesmaid and Jr Bridesmaid flowers are white and gold with no black accents.

Adult Bridesmaids and MOH in black beaded cocktail dresses, nude stockings and black satin shoes.

Jr Bridesmaids are in gold dresses and gold strappy sandals.

My bouquet is going to be a splash of reds and pinks, just to be dramatic and different.

We have gold uplighting in the hall.

I think that'a about it!  At our rehearsal dinner we are serving a round cake with the Steelers logo on it, and we have encouraged people to dress casual for the rehearsal and even wear a Steelers jersey if they like.

So we're having in this event in true Pittsburgh style - not pretentious at all, and keeping it real while still keeping it classy.

Hope this helps anyone else who reads this post later on and is considering a Pittsburgh or Steelers theme wedding.

(PS - we really did tell MOB and MOG not to pick a purple dress.)
