Block Island Wedding

Hi! I am planning an August 2010 Block Island wedding. I am trying to iron out some details on a DJ, photographer and florist. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am trying to avoid paying the travel expenses of off island vendors.   If anyone has used any of the vendors on Block Island and can give me some advice, that would be great.   Thanks so much! Jen

MrsDtobe2009 just was married there on Sept. 5, so maybe she'll have some advice. In the mean time, I picked up this magazine published by the BI Times newspaper while I was visiting BI this summer (I'll pick up anything that says "wedding" haha) and it seemed helpful: http://issuu.com/blockislandtimes/docs/biwedding_web

Hi Jen, I'm planning a June 2010 wedding in Block Island. Where are you getting married on the Island?  We decided to go with the Spring House. For DJ we are using Marc Scortino (www.islandweddingdj.com), he came very highly recommended from everyone I spoke with and he is on-island, so there are no travel expenses. Also, for florist, we are either going to go with Blazing Star Farm (www.blazingstarfarm.com) or Jamie at www.labellarose.com. Both are on-island. I haven't picked yet, but the advice I got was to not go with Claire McQueeny (sp?) because she changes around her prices.  The the photographer, we had to go off-island, because we just didn't connect with John Fuller who I believe is the only on-island person.  We went with Ken Lopardo out of Westerly, but there are so many great photographers to choose from depending on your budget!  I'm going to try to bring my own hair person, because I was told that was the way to go (Eco spa is super expensive, and I talked to a few brides who had bad experiences at the Beachcomber)The BI Wedding Guide was definitely helpful!  Also, we were able to talk to a few brides, who we knew through my FI's parents (who have had a house in BI for years), so that was helpful too.Kate

Kate, This was SO helpful. Thank you! We haven't decided where yet. We are looking at the Spring House and Sullivan House tomorrow. Both are available the date we want.  I love the Spring House but want an evening wedding and I'm not quite sure I'm going to make the guest list cut off to have one (I think you need 150). Will you be taking care of travel and overnight accommodations for your photographer? Thanks again!Jen

Hi Jen! We LOVED the Sullivan House too (and thought the food was slightly better) but we had too many people, so sort of the opposite problem!  But I think both are great places, so either one you pick will have fantastic views and great service/food, so you can't go wrong :)  We are paying for our photographer to stay over and take the ferry, so that is sort of a pain, but we felt like it was worth it, so we just worked it into our budget. He told us he is willing to stay anywhere, so at least he was flexible (some photographers specifically noted certain hotels that they wanted!)  I will probably end up paying ferry for my hair person, but not hotel, since they will be able to catch the ferry back the same day.  So glad to know there is another BI bride on here!!  I just ordered my dress last night, so I officially feel like a bride now!Feel free to email with any questions, and I'm sure I'll have some for you too. Kate

If you go over there one day, I saw a magazine that was full of Block Island vendors! Perhaps your venue can send you one!

I'm so excited there are other Block Island brides on here, I'm getting married at the Rose Farm Inn in 2011. Since it is so far out I haven't really gotten that far in booking vendors, but this post has been very helpful.

Yes! We are in the process of booking the Sullivan House. I love the Spring House and saw it set up for a beautiful wedding but the idea that if we don't make the 150 mark we have to pay 100 per head kinda threw a wrench in it for us :)We'll also be able to pick the time of the wedding so we can have it end at 8:30 so our guests can catch the 9pm Ferry so they can come for the day if the cost of the inn's etc is too much.Love BI though, it's such an awesome place. The BI wedding packet has also been so helpful. Thanks again!

Hi Jen, Im also a Block Island Bride!  Im excited as well to find some others on here.  I just booked Picture Perfect Photography for our wedding.  They have a great BI wedding gallery on their website and they really worked with us on developing a package and price that worked for us.  They will also go with us to BI in the Spring to do an engagement session.  We are paying for one night accomodations for them but got a $50 vendor rate for a room so it made sense.  http://www.pictureperfectphoto.us/-Roseanne
