Best planning guide/organizer?

Hey ladies, my fiance and I got engaged last week and are planning a long engagement to accomodate our schooling schedules, but I want to start compiling ideas to make the planning smoother later.

A few months ago, I went to a Barnes and Noble and saw several binders and guides with space for logging ideas or saving ads or photos. Great idea, but I'm wondering if any of you have found a resource that you found indispensable. Since I'm still new at this, I really don't know what features to look for or what will actually be helpful.

Any recommendations or tips?

Re: Best planning guide/organizer?

  • My own binder and the planning tools from wedding wire have been the most helpful to me so far, and I bought like five planning books.
  • I wouldn't bother buying a planning guide. I just used a binder from home and made my own and I kept track of my budget with an Excel spreadsheet.

  • You can also download free templates online and print them out and put them in a binder

I've found wedding wire's tools really useful too. Their budget too is way more useful than the one on The Knot, for example.

I second this. I use the weddingwire budget, guest list, and checklist tools. I also have an accordion file where I keep ideas, contracts, and other important paperwork. There are so many free tools and printables available online that I wouldn't purchase anything.
  • Thanks, ladies; looking around at Wedding Wire and comparing it to The Knot *is* pretty helpful to cover all the bases. I also looked in the bookstore just to see if I wasn't missing anything, and you guys have passed along some good advice; none of them look like they can make for a truly unique, memorable day. Thanks again!

</div><div>This!  I bought a planner and was totally overwhelmed by all the information in it, I ended up tearing half of it out because it didn't apply to our smaller, non-religious wedding and now I wish I had just made my own.

  • I have a HUGE binder with all of our information put together by catagory in it, I used http://justlovelykatherine.blogspot.com/2012/06/www-how-to-put-together-wedding.html << this girls blog to understand what to put in it and secured everything in clear sleeves to have multiple copies for vendors and such to give out when I have my final meetings.

    Good luck and CONGRATS!
    Enjoy planning!

  • i am just taping my printouts into a spiral notebook...i do have a small planner, but find it more useful for general guidance instead of actual planning.
