Critique My Invites

Hello,

I've been looking for cheap invitations and haven't had any luck finding something that I like.  I like some of the designs on Etsy, but figured if I was going to have to print them out myself, I could just make a design of my own.

Here's what I came up with after playing on Microsoft Publisher for half hour or so.  Please critique the design/wording.  I've erased a lot of it for security reasons, but I tried to leave on the endings so you could see wehre the words stop on the page.

Is my design too informal for my wedding?  It's a church/3 course meal and band wedding.  Nothing super fancy but definetly not informal.  Simple is just more my style :)

Let me know what you think and/or if there's anything I could change to make it better!

Thanks!

Re: Critique My Invites

  • The font looks very informal to me. They're super cute, but I think it looks more appropriate for a daytime casual wedding. I like the border, but I would use a more formal-looking font.

Invites are supposed to set the tone for the formality of the event and most guests will use the style of the invites to choose their outift. If I received this, I'd probably slap on a simple sundress and cute flat sandals and go.

I agree that the font really does not match the church ceremony or 3 course meal setting. I would vote more for some type of script font, or even a nice printed one.

I hear you on the simple invite, but you can definitely maintain your style while still reflecting the tone of the wedding. Ours was not DIY, but we just found a simple but elegant invite with embossed flowers over a green background (http://www.carlsoncraftproducts.com/We_ViewEns.cfm?sItemCode=WedEns8976&sCatalogCode=WedEns13CC&iStartRow=81&format=WedEns13CCa&strcontinue=yes&strsearch=yes).

You don't have to be matchy matchy, but I'm curious - is green part of your wedding colors? Is it a spring, summer or destination wedding? The ferns make me wonder which season you're working with.

Yeah, ditto beardown. If I were to receive this in the mail I would think it was a very casual church wedding with a backyard reception (not that there's anything wrong with backyard receptions).

ETA: I just realized I didn't add any suggestions for what could be changed. Really, I think it's just the font. If you used a nice script font rather than the one you did It would really up the "formality" factor. I used a font called "adage" and "English" on mine. I found English on www.dafont.com and I found Adage on Magnet Street and then googled until I found a free download.

  • I agree with PPs.  The fonts don't set the tone for the kind of wedding you describe.
  • I'm not positive but because it's a church wedding I think it's supposed to say "the honor of your presence" (not the pleasure of yo ur company)...  It also just doesn't look formal at all.  As someone else said, I'd expect an out door bbq...  Check out Vistaprint for ideas.
  • Thanks for the responses, ladies! That's what I thought, I just didn't want it to be true. I'll keep looking! :

I believe on wedding invitations, the year is written two thousand and thirteen.  In math, it's different.
