Other roles for other people :)

So we decided we are having our siblings stand up with us at the ceremony. However, I have some friends that I want to feel involved in some way and be a part of the day assisting with something or presenting something during the ceremony. This is the list I have so far:
• guest book
• gift receivers
• reading a blessing during ceremony
• reading scripture
• ushers (4)
• parking
• bridal assistant
• groom assistant
• witness for marriage license
Can you add anything to it? I need about 3 more responsibilities for people to fill. Note: I already have a DOC and someone to introduce us/MC the event.

P.S. I know it seems kind of lame to just dump responsibilities on people, but in our circle of friends it's an honor to be "hands-on" for the day of the wedding.

Re: Other roles for other people :)

• Are you having ceremony programs? If so, someone could hand them out. And I agree with Katelyn--parking sounds like the worst job ever! Everything else seems like direct involvement with the ceremony/reception, but parking does not in any way seem like an honor.

• What about a prayer before dinner?

• What about someone helpin guests get their escort cards. And yea handing out programs & a prayer before dinner are good ideas too.

• I'd lose parking and guest book.
• Being a guest and enjoying the day sound good to me Smile

You can always tack on an additional usher or two as well.

Readings ae always nice, but everything else is just a job. I understand wanting them to feel special, and maybe some would, but like Jub said, it's nice to enjoy the day as a guest.

Also I think it would make the WP seem less intimate.

Truer words have never been spoken. Well, maybe they have, but these are pretty darn close. ;)
• I know exactly how you feel- that is how people view being asked to help at a wedding around here too... it is an honor even if others look at it thinking its a job. I am having my 3 best friends from college be "honory bridesmaids" in stead of personal attendents. THe name sounds better to me. Pretty much they will just get a flower and hang out with me for the day. It is more of an invitation to be at the RD and be "around" the whole day and not think they are only supposed to show up for the ceremony. I want to hang out with them all day as they ahve been there for me for years. Will they help with stuff? Of course... but not out of obligation. They are already trying to come up with lists of things they can help with!

• Thanks for the ideas.

The fact is our close friends want to be involved in the wedding day. I have had many people offer. And we are having our siblings are our WP so we are finding ways for our friends to be involved in other ways.

The parking does seem like a crappy job, but we are getting married at my parents home and will need some major organization of the parking (300 guests, parking in a small field and around our driveway in an organized fashion) I know it sounds weird, but people will be happy to help and will still have time to enjoy being a wedding guest. That's just how our close friends are :)

This exactly. I am asking about 10 of my friends to be "Honorary Bridesmaids", They will have pinned flowers, and we will all be wearing TOMS shoes (for something fun). It is mostly a hangout invitation...but they are already offering and wanting to be involved in anyway possible.

So I want it be organized instead of having 10 friends, plus all my aunts and uncles running around trying to "help" when really it is just overwelming for me on the week of/day of when they are asking me 100 questions about what to do.

Wait- are you talking about my wedding?!?! HAHA! We are also getting married at my parents house and having over 300 guests and parking would be insane if we didnt have people directly traffic! We are asking my uncle to "man the parking" and we are hiring some local high schoolers to help as well.

• Hahaa. Yeah I'm pretty sure we are getting married on the same day and using hula hoop chandeleirs, too! and if I remember right, our colors are kind of similar. Crazy =) I didn't think about hiring people. How are you doing that? Do you have connections with the people you are hiring? I would want the connection to be very distant so that I don't feel bad not inviting them to the wedding. How much are you paying them?

My dad owns a business and some of his employees have high school aged kids. He is asking 2 of his employees if its ok to ask their sons to help direct traffic. I dont trust high school boys farther than I can throw them, so my uncle will be their "leader" haha! My uncle came up with this idea so I dont feel bad having him do it. And he will only be doing it before the ceremony and then free to enjoy the rest of the night. As far as how much we are paying them I honestly dont know as my dad is taking care of all parking relating issues. I would guess $15/hour or something like that and we will have them there from 5-8:30 or something like that (ceremony at 6:30). They are NOT doing valet... they are only directing the cars to places to park and then giving rides to older folks who cannot make the walk to the ceremony.

ETA: What are your colors?

• Very pretty! Let me know how your chandeleirs turn out. We are trying to do differing sizes and thickness of the rings, so we are going to Lowe's or Menards tonight to look for different, bendable, easy to work with piping that would work well. :)

Our tent is 60x120. So how many chandeliers are you doing? We are also getting married at a different location on my parents land :) Is your tent your rain backup for the ceremony or do you have a different back up?
