Flowers

Very tight budget

We are having a very low budget wedding. Most things are being borrowed from friends or donated to us in lieu of gifts from our church body. I'm hitting a wall with flowers though. I know I want to do fresh for my bridesmaids and myself, we are going to try planting our own and picking them from the yard & if that doesn't work then we'll be going to a local shop to get fresh stems and tying them ourself.

My question is, who all has to have flowers?

Re: Very tight budget

  • We skipped flowers for decoration, including centerpieces.  DH, BM, FOB had bouts, MOH and I had bouquets and MOB had a corsage (DH's mom has passed and dad couldn't travel).  We also used daisies as our flowers rather than the more popular (and expensive) ones.

  • Thank you for your input @tldh! It's quite helpful!!! :-D
  • Flowers aren't a necessity, so just go with what work for your budget.

  • I am on a tough budget as well. I opted for daisies and carnations. My bouquet will be very small and a lot of baby's breath to reduce costs even more. My bridesmaid wants a corsage so she won't lose her bouquet during the night. So much cheaper and making her happy. My bridesman and man of honour will have boutonierres matching the 2 groomsmen and best man. Everything is small and simple. You don't need flowers, but if you really want them, you can do the arrangements yourself. You can also borrow stuff from people you know. My FMIL has a teapot collection that will double as our centerpieces and table numbers. The favours are also doubling as place settings so names are on the favours and people will know to take them. If they forget to take them, I think I can find a use for homemade saskatoon jam. I think *heehee.* I've based most stuff on the question "Can this be used for something else after the wedding?" to help me justify the money I am spending.

  • You can make your flowers and corsages or boutineers like florist do. Some helpful ideas and learn how to wrap it nicely is on youtube. Type in DIY....etc. Supplies you can purchase at walmart in the plants vase aisle. And just get flowers from local store. (add ribbon etc) you save hundreds of dollars and still have pretty elegant flowers.
