Priest & Outdoor Wedding

Hi all,

I've been trying to find a priest who will do an outdoor wedding. I know it's been done before, but I'm not sure if it's been done *here* in Pittsburgh. I'm open to other alternatives for sure. Anyone have any suggestions? If you're getting married by a priest, outdoors, I'd love some info if you wouldn't mind! I'm having a difficult time finding an officiant, period. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks! Happy planning! - A

I don't know specifically at an outdoor wedding, but the priest we are using is co-officiating with a pastor in a baptist church. He is a family friend of my FI's parents, so I'm not sure how often he marries anyone he does not know, but if you want info, let me know.

Are you looking for a priest of specific religious denomination or a non-denominational officiant? Our outdoor ceremony was done by a non-denominational officiant...

If your looking for a Catholic Priest, it's doable, but hard.  You need to have special permission from the Bishop and a very good reason.  I wanted to do my ceremony outdoors, but opted for a church that has a very natural feel.

From what I undertand, Catholic priests cannot wed people outside of a Catholic Church. But the above post is probably right- it's probably doable under special circumstances. I believe there are "rent a priests" around Pittsburgh, I've seen them advertised, but they are not "offical' priests of the church.
