  You def. don't need flowers for centerpieces. I'm starting to look at different options as well, man i wish my venue had that many free options lol. Do whatever you like and I'm sure it will  be beautiful. Besides do you remeber the centerpieces from the weddings you've been to? I don't lol

  I'm using a combination of candles and flowers.  You could use the free candels that your venue provides and mix in a few small vases of flowers or even scatter flowers on the table between the candles.  That way you get a little bit of floral interest without spending a ton of money on big floral arrangements.

  Ditto, do a little of both. This is essentially what I'm doing. Small bunches of flowers or even single buds in small vases are pretty inexspensive.

  Go for the candles!  I love weddings that aren't flowers galore (which is why my wedding is less flowers and more simple).  But if you really want flowers you could do what my memorial flowers will be-submerged in a vase of water.
