David's Bridal

Hi!

I searched for posts about David's Bridal but they are more than 100 days old and am afraid the info in there may be oudated so I'm creating another one, hope that's ok!

I read some really old posts about David's Bridal and am wondering if it's still the same.

I am planning on trying on some dresses in the Manchester location (closest to me), do I have to make an appointment?  I am thinking of going in the middle of the week because I don't like crowds.

I don't plan on buying but that may change depending on the schedule of a friend who said is willing to make it for me.  I read somewhere that David's require all your contact info before you try on anything - email, phone, home address and then spam you like crazy after that? LOL  I do not wish that to happen to me but if it can't be avoided...

Right now I don't need "good" customer service, just want to see how different dresses look on me.  So I'm wondering what your experiences in David's are like.

Thanks!  (Sorry for such a long post LOL)

I went a few months ago for the same reasons as you, just to try on different dress styles. I had an appointment for a Sunday... it was crazyyy busy. But I would imagine a weekday would be less crowded. After I was done trying on dresses I was looking with my sister(MOH) at dresses for her but she wasn't able to try them on bc all the dressing rooms were taken.

They did take down all of my info and proceeded to SPAM me like CRAZY! I was getting like 10 emails a week. So I got off their mailing list! The experience was just ok... I'm excited to go to some other bridal shops to get a more personalized experience and try on some nicer dresses :o) Hope that helps a little!

I bought my dress in Manchester, and had a good experience.  I originially went in on a weekend and it was crazy, I went back during the week and had a much better experience.

It really is a good place to try on dresses, they have so many different styles you can get an idea on what type of dress you like the best.

I do agree you do get calls and emails from them.  If you're not sure you can always make a wedding email  that would stop some of the spam.

    Good luck, happy shopping!!

I got mine at David's Bridal in Westbury, LI.  But I also only looked at and tried on one dress.  The place was a disaster, it was a Sunday.  Go during the week.  Other than that, the attendant, price, ordering and pick up was great.

definitely make an appt even if you go during the week (when you will get someone who actually will give you the time of day). on the weekends they book like 2 or 3 brides at the same time for the same consultant so they arent very helpful. i did end up getting my dress there (fell in love!) but it had nothing to do with the service. dont get it altered there, ive heard horror stories.

sandra (if she's still there) helped me and she was pretty good- but it was a weeknight.

GOOD LUCK and dont forget to have fun :)!

I actually went a few weeks ago to kick off my dress search. I did make an appointment- JIC. It was on a Friday... and it was BUSY. There was only one consultant and she was juggling between me and three other brides.

Honestly, I didn't mind at all. I could tell she was busy. (The staffing must've been poorly done for that day...) But FI was really irritated. It was the first store where I'd be trying on dresses and he wanted the whole experience. /o:

Anywho, there wasn't much that we both could agree on. So we didn't get a dress there... It doesn't hurt to try on dresses though! Like Tashala, I wanted a more personal experience.

agreed, make an appointment.  it's safer to have one and know that you'll be set than to walk in and have to wait or something.

they do make you fill out a form with all that information before you try anything on, and they will certainly use that information, too.  like vikki said, make a wedding email for the spam you don't want in your normal email (this is SUPER helpful for bridal shows, too!).  you can always just change a digit on your phone number if you don't want them calling...but they only call to follow up and see if you want the dress.  my consultant called me probably twice, until i finally told her that i was not going to buy from them, and then she left me alone.  and you can always unsubscribe from the emails too....

    good luck!!

When I was trying on BM dresses for a friend I inquired about wedding dresses and they said to try on any of the bridal dresses you needed an appt.  I went during the week at night and they were busy but I ended up having 2 consultants help - one seemed to be learning the ropes.
I either didn't give my email or gave a digit off my phone # - I wasn't contacted at all.
I agree it's a great place to start the process - good luck!

I went to the manchester one a Sunday thinking I could just look but they made me set up an appointment which was fine tried on some found my dress bought it. The consultant was very busy with 2 other brides, but I had my FSIL and FMIL there so they were also my consultants. Had fun with it. didnt expect to buy anything but she was kind of naggy about buying something. But I fell inlove with my dress. The only thing I have bad to say is the managers and whoever was behind the counter was very rude. Threw my dress around with no bag over it  and they were just careless. They were also rude at the Warwick one when I went to get BM dresses. Definatly a starter place and DEFINATLY go on a weekday/night. MUCH better service and there not as rude.

Same thing happened to me except not only was I getting crap load of emails but also calls a few times a month telling me I won some bridal package that requires payment upfront. They definitely sell your info to 3rd party. It's a great place to check out different styles but if you are not planning on buying from there just give them fake number and email.

If you have never tried on dresses before, go to Davids Bridal. It's a good place to break your gown virginity, but maybe come back on the weekday as PP's have said before.

I tried on my first wedding gowns there as a walk in, so the experience was alright. My consultant ran off a lot because she had 2-3 more clients to work with so that was a bit iffy. She did make me feel better though, since she herself was getting married, so we kind of giggled like little girls about the dress shopping the entire time.

Thanks so much guys!  I will definitely make an appointment soon for a weekday, buying or not...I just don't like to feel the pressure.

About the email for spam, I normally give my spam email when I sign up for random stuff online.  Unfortunately when I went to one bridal show I didn't think of giving them my spam email and instead gave my REAL email which I end getting some spam.  Not as much though but definitely annoying LOL

I have been to the Manchester David's Bridal 3 times. I've never gone to try on gowns there. The first time was to look for a party dress. The second time I went it was because they told me the dress I ordered was ready to pick up and then when I got there it was not at all the dress I ordered. The third time was to get a strapless bra.

I've never gone on a weekend. Every time I've gone it's been dead during the week yet they are still extremely rude. They were nice to me until they found out I wasn't interested in wedding gowns, and then they were downright rude. I waited for 15 mins for someone to let me into a dressing room when there was NOBODY in the store!! I had asked the person who sits up front and she said she'd call someone. I finally went back to ask again and she sighed and said, I guess just go in any of them. They're not even locked! I waited all that time when she could've just told me to go in the first time. Then they ordered me the wrong dress and I had to scramble to find a dress for my friend's wedding 2 days before. Not only did I have to scramble, but I had already paid for the dress. They tried to say I couldn't get my money back because they were going to order the correct dress. I told them I had no use for the other dress anymore because it wouldn't come in time. It took 5 weeks for my refund to process. The last time I went was for the bra. They only carry 2 styles there. I didn't like either one so I left. Due to their udder lack of customer service there I have vowed to NEVER get my dress from them (also I've heard horror stories). My friend got her dress at a David's Bridal in RI and she did not have any problems. It may just be the Manchester store. I do NOT recommend them.

I didn't read all the replies, so I hope that I don't repeat anyone.

I read REALLY bad things about David's Bridal, but we actually had a great experience.

I flew to CT (I live in NC, but Manchester is my hometown) in March to shop for bridesmaids dresses with my girls, who live locally.  We did not have an appointment.  The place was PACKED with what seemed like prom dress shoppers.  My heart sank because I was sure we were never going to get help, as we had no appointment, but we had a personal shopper and a dressing room in NO TIME.

    We did very very good.

Also, I bought my wedding dress at a DB in Winston-Salem, NC and had a great experience there, as well.

Personally, I would never buy anything in a store so disorganized/dirty and with such horrible personal service. Not to mention, who wants to try on bridal gowns when there are 94338 children running around the store unchecked. Plus, the fabric and embellishments are just so cheap looking to me. Don't get me wrong, a dress budget is completely understandable, but there are just so many other ways to go that offer a much higher quality product at much better service.

    Thanks for the feedback.

As I mentioned in my original post, I only want to try on dresses and not buy from the store.  My dress will be custom made but I wouldn't know what looks good on me without trying them on right?  I'd rather not waste sales consultants' time if I'm not going to buy from them in the first place.

Besides, stores tend to be busy on weeknights and weekends especially with large chain stores like Davids Bridal, so chaos is expected.

Can you recommend a store other than Davids Bridal that is willing to spend the time with me when I don't plan on buying anything?

Besides I doubt it is impossible to find "high quality" product in Davids Bridal.  And it really depends on what the person is looking for.

just one thing that im wondering about... ive also heard many bad things about davids bridal and have never been there to check it out myself which i do plan on doing but what im thinking is that they must be doing something right to be that packed all of the time even during the week, right? y would so many people go there if they really sucked that bad? like i said ive never been there but i definetely want to get the full experience myself.

I went there  to look for dresses after having made an appointment at a Bridal show. When I arrived at 6:00- my scheduled time, they told me I was a half hour early. I had the card in my pocket from the bridal show that the DB person had written 6:00 on. So I was already feeling uneasy.
The set me up with a "consultant" who gave me a book and told me to pick out some dresses I would like to try- I found a few and off she went. She came back, and set me up in a dressing room. After a few dresses, i mentioned to my mom that the dress I was trying came in a petite size, which might look better (I am under 5 feet)- the consultant looked at me and said- Oh, do you want to try on petite sizes. Ummm, maybe I'm just expecting too much, but yes, if you have the dress I like in the actual size I need, then yes, that is the one I would like to try on.
I really didn't like the store,  or the people, but some of the dresses were nice. I also have heard horror-stories about their alterations though.
