Indiana

Local foods?

I thought about including some local food favorites in our out-of-town bags, but need some ideas! The only 2 things I know of so far is Derr's Soda (from my home town) and Popcorn, Indiana.

Any other suggestions??

Southern part, but I'm looking for stuff from all over the state. FI's guest list is from all over the country.

I would look up any farmers markets near you, I know the one in Bloomington is huge and they have vendors for just about everything, coffee, candy, etc. You could look up some of those vendors and then talk about ordering from them in bulk.

If you want to do any alcohol, you could get wine from Oliver (Bloomington) or Satek (Fremont). Beer- Mad Anthony (Ft. Wayne), Three Floyd's (Munster), Upland (Bloomington). For snacks, there's Amish Acres (http://www.amishacresgeneralstore.com/), Sechler Pickles (http://www.sechlerspickles.com/pages/home.html) and also check this site, which has several ideas http://indiana-guide.info/food/

    HTH!

I am not familiar with that part of the state, but we are finding there are plenty of local shops that have local food or items.

    Try local:
    chocolate shops
    bakeries (cookies, scones, etc)
    winery
    brewery
gift shops/art co-ops (usually have small little mementos from local artists---like cards, postcards, etc)

We including a Starbucks GC (or anyother near-by coffee shop), which clearly isn't Indiana specific but useful since it's nearby the hotel.

I like all the ideas above as well---I may have to use some!

I've seen the following marshmallows in the news a lot lately. They're made locally by a catering company using local and often organic ingredients. Check their website for a list of retailers.

There is a candy store in Martinsville that the candy is made there. It is called the Candy Kitchen. Oliver Winery you can get some stuff as well. I know there are some pretty neat cupcake stores in Indianapolis, and popcorn places, there are also several apple orchards around Bloomington and Indianapolis

Ski Soda and Grippos Potato Chips are both locally produced in Southern Indiana. And they are super tasty.
