DJ Prices

Good evening ladies:

I will preface this message by acknowledging that this is a tacky and perhaps naïve question…

What are you generally paying for your DJ in the Poughkeepsie area?   I’m about to start researching DJs (just a basic DJ with a sound system and speakers—no machines, limited announcements, no line dances,  no games) but I must admit that I have absolutely no idea what a general price range is for this kind of service.  I’m thinking roughly 5 hours (1 hour cocktail, 1 hour dinner, 3 hours dancing).  My fiancé and I will provide a pretty solid play list for cocktail and dinner but will defer to the DJ’s list (based on our general taste) during the dance segment.   From my early stage of research, I’ve noticed that most DJs don’t publish their price lists on-line and prefer to tell you in person or over the phone.  That’s fine but I’d like to be somewhat prepared beforehand. Any idea of the ranges I might expect to hear?

Thank you in advance for your help.

You should definitely go to the Anthony's Pier Nine bridal show this weekend. You'll be able to meet a ton of DJs and they should have their package pricing available there.

That being said, I am going to recommend my DJ - Gary Whitaker, Strictly Entertainment DJs,  We paid $1200 two years ago.  His music catalog is extensive and he was a great MC & DJ.  He will be at the bridal show.

Thanks for your helpful response.  That doesn't sound like a terribly high price. I'm sure it has gone up but it's good to have  a baseline price range.

I would say you are going to pay aobut $1000 and up.

I used Spinning with Style (DJ Bri Swatek) and he was $1200 but I won a $200 credit at a bridal show.  He was at two bridal shows i went to and I am sure he will be at the pier nine one as well.  He will listen to what you want (no gimmicks, etc)

I spent $1500 for Jimmy Dee.  It included 5 hours (1 hour cocktail hour, 4 hour reception), DJ, MC, and basic lights.  I didn't do any research to be honest, so I'm not sure if that is high or not.  I knew I wanted JImmy Dee so I just booked them.

Third the bridal show!! Its awesome!

We used Much Music with Larry Mulligan and paid $1275 this past May, but that included an extra guy.  We were THRILLED with his services.  Really a guy that takes pride in his business and a pleasure to work with

    Good luck with your search

We used DJ Bri and he did an outstanding job!

And like Ssage, he quoted us $1200 but we won a prize at a bridal show (either a free photo montage or $200  off. We didn't plan on using a photo collage, so we went for the savings!)

And I think he is at the Anthony Pier Nine's show. (Tons of vendors go to this show - you should definitely plan to attend!)

But you were asking for a range. Anything from $1200 - 1500 is about average. You will find a bunch of DJ's to select from in that range.

Less than $1000 or more than $2000 and I'd wonder about that.

    HTH! Enjoy the show!

I booked my DJ last night (finally, yay!). She (yes, SHE) is a friend of a friend, and is very affordable, not to mention personable and friendly. Check her out.

That is so funny!  I actually looked into her and really liked her (so did my MOH) but I ended up with DJ Bri!  She was my second choice...oen of the reasons why I did not pick her was because I never saw a review about her.  So glad she is getting out there...she was VERY affordable

Check out Spinning with Style- DJ Bri Swatek (he's from I think Orange county or Ulster, I can't remember). We paid 1200 and he was really great. From the 2nd song (after our first dance obviously) to the last song the room was packed all night. He really knows his stuff.

Tom Destry Entertainment....Cool, smooth from ceremony through the end of the wedding. Can't say enough good things about him. $995 all-inclusive package gets you everything. Two other Dj's caught our eye while looking were DJ Doctor Sound and Victor Vargas but I don't have their rate for this year.
