i understand everything that needs to be done...just need some advice. we're going on our honeymoon the weekend after the wedding. fiance booked everything using his last name (my first and his last) so my question to you ladies is....when i go to the DMV and social security office, can i give them the actual marriage license that the priest gives back to us? or do they require the one that the court mails to you after the wedding? i am really uneasy about this whole thing...should i change my name on all of our reservations/flight back to my maiden name for now?

If you can't get a government ID (for domestic flights) or your passport (for international flights) changed before your honeymoon, there's no way that you will be allowed on the planes with your old ID if your tickets are under your soon-to-be last name. The names must match.

Sometimes the SS office needs the triple seal license which will not be ready for the weekend after your wedding. From reading experiences on here, it depends on who you get at the office. Different people have had different rules applied to them.

IMO, to be safe, I'd wait until after your HM to make the changes, so even though it will cost money to change the names (some airlines will actually make you cancel the tickets and buy a new one, often at higher prices) on the reservations, I'd keep everything in my maiden name if I were you.

i agree with S. you need to change everything to your maiden name.

you cannot request the triple seal until 10 days after the wedding also. so unless you are having a delayed HM you won't even be able to get a copy of your marriage license to change anything.

so have needed the triple seal to change their SS cards, others haven't.

When we flew home for Christmas last year, I booked my ticket in my married name (2+ months after the wedding). I figured I would have everything updated by then. However, I did not know that Texas is ass-backwards and that when you go to get your driver's license, they don't give it to you on the spot - it gets processed in Austin and mailed to you.

I was told the turnaround time was 6-8 weeks, so I didn't have enough time to get the license before flying. I don't remember the exact details, I think I tried changing the ticket to my maiden name and they wouldn't let me so I ended up just using the ticket with my married name and handing it to the security person along with the marriage license. I had no problem. I did use the triple-seal copy, though.

Some people have done what Karen has done and domestic isn't typically a problem. But international certainly will be. And why risk it?

Change everything back to your maiden name on your tickets.

Ah, that sucks! We flew back out of Philly and I didn't have a problem there either. I'm sure it depends on who you get.

I'd keep tickets etc in your maiden name. We went on our HM 3 weeks after the wedding and I had all reservations/tickets in my maiden name. SLM is right about it seeming to be a crapshoot on who you get at the SS office whether you end up needing the triple seal copy or not. I didn't want to take the risk of waiting for an hour to be told I don't have the right copy, so I just picked up my triple seal copy on Monday, am going to the SS office next Friday, took a half day.

The explanation I got when I called the SS 1-800# to try to clarify what I needed was that due to more restrictions now post 9/11 plus the increase in fraud cases/stolen identities, the SS office requires your birthdates or ages on the license. The Allegheny County copy you get from the priest does not have birtdates or ages on, but the triple seal copy is essentially your marriage record and contains all the information that you supplied on your marriage license app (parents' names, your birthdates, etc).

I wouldn't take the risk of being delayed for flights etc on your honeymoon, make your ticket in your maiden name.
