Let's talk cake!

Hello everyone! My fiance and I are getting married in April and we have our first cake tasting in 2 weeks. So what are you doing for a cake. Are you doing buttercream or fondant? Basic or elaborate? Cake flavor? Filling favor? Price? Help! I have an idea of what I would like. Please share your ideas and add pictures if you want. Here is the style I am hoping for.

My daughter had buttercream, ivory, with fresh flowers an ribbons. The brooch is a vintage piece.  She chose 4 layers:  dark chocolate with peanut butter cream filling, marble with fudge, vanilla with apricot and lemon with vanilla creme.  She was going with rustic and fall.
My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!

Mine was fairly simple.  There was a combination of chocolate and vanilla sour cream cake (alternating layers).  With the chocolate cake there was a white chocolate mousse and the vanilla a chocolate mousse.  The icing was buttercream.  I don't know the price of it because our cake maker was a close family friend and she gave it to us as our wedding gift.

FI and I decided on a square three tiered cake; cinnamon-vanilla cake with white chocolate mousse filling (sooooooo good!), covered in french buttercream to look like fondant like this TK pic:  Ours will be light and dark blue ribbons though.
    $3/slice.

When it comes to the cake, mimic the bold, layered look of the table with white fondant accented with green stripes and small sugar poppies. Cake by Cheryl Kleinman Cakes

We are doing a four teired cake with sheet cakes to serve all 300 people. We are alternating layers. Half of the cakes will be a triple chocolate with a french silk filling and the other half will be a marble strawberry cake with a homeade whipped frosting in the middle along with real cut strawberries in the middle (my favorite). The strawberry layers will have the homemade whipped frosting on them and the chocolate layers will have a buttercream frosting. (The baker told us they will match the colors of frostings so the outside of the cake will look uniform) Other than that we are keeping it pretty simple. It will look just like the picture below with pink dasies and edible pearls around each base. Then our monogram cake topper up top! :)

Our original wedding cake idea was a four tier (Hexagon - Round - Hexagon - Round) cake with two tiers white cake and two tiers a french vanilla with strawberry filling. Icing would be a white chocolate buttercream. Very simple decorations (fondant ribbon around one tier, hexagon tiers covered with sugar glitter, and fondant bow on top). It would feed about 140 people. Two quotes were for approx. $7/pp. (~$1k).  We were in shock. To add fondant would have been $200 more.  Included in those prices are ~$100 in delivery and cake plate fees.

We have two more cake consultations with smaller bakeries and are also considering a home made cupcake tower with small cake on top for cutting. Our wedding cake budget was $600...I never knew my taste in wedding cake would be extravagant enough to almost double that!

We did vanilla buttercream frosting because I can't stand the texture & flavor of fondant.  The bottom tier was a hexagon and the top two were round.  White background with green vines & small flowers.  We did have some small decorations (leaves, small ribbons) that were fondant, for the 3-D effect, and sugar roses for the top.  Each of the tiers was a three layer cake:  the bottom was yellow/chocolate/yellow with chocolate mousse filling and the top two were white cake with lemon curd & strawberry buttercream fillings.  Surprisingly, most people went for the white cake w/ lemon & strawberry.  We had a lot of the chocolate & yellow cake left.

The price worked out to $5.00 per serving.  Delivery in my area was only $45.

We alternated layers of champage cake with raspberry mousse with chocolate cake with strawberry jam.  We provided the ribbon to the bakery and they matched the frosting color to our ribbon.  The diamonds are fondant while the rest of the frosting is buttercream.  We had the cake topped with flower reminiscent of my bouquet.

Were doing a 4 tiered round ivory fondant covered cake. Serves 120. Were doing 3 different flavors: red velvet with cream cheese frosting, lemon cake with raspberry filling and white chocolate buttercream, and coconut cake with chocolate buttercream and coconut creme filling. Our design is fairly simple and classic. Cost is $675.

This is our cake design except we will have four tiers.

We just went for our cake tasting today.  We have 4 layers- 2 red velvet with cream cheese, 1 choloclate with hazelnut and 1 vanella with coconut.  It cake alternated square and round layers. It's white butterceam with a fondant rope trim and pink and green buttercream flowers. It was included in out venue price. But I'm sure it costs about 1 k.

I am making our cake. I'm so excited about it. We have done two test run cakes and they have been really successful. We are doing a Gansito insprired cake. It will be three layers. Yellow cake with a strawberry compte filling, a second vanilla creme filling, with a chocolate ganache for the frosting.
