Name Change Help!

So I need some help from those of you who have gone through this..where do I begin?? I know that I need to do the SS and drivers license first, but can I just take the marriage certificate the priest gave us or am I waiting for something else in the mail? I wasnt sure if I'm supoosed to go pick something up, wait, or what I should be doing! Any advice is appreciated.Smile

like SLM said the last time this was asked, you're going to get different answers re: the marriage license.

the SS office says they want the triple seal license. some tried to go without it and were ok. i didn't feel like taking a trip to the SS office to be turned away, so i sent my $10 money order to the county and requested a triple seal copy of the license.

whichever you decide, my personal opinion is to start with the SS office and then the DMV. everything else can be done online/over the phone/in person with the license the priest gave you.

also, if you own a car then you'll need to print the forms to change your name on the title. i haven't done that yet. 9 months late...oops.

I'm just LMAO at this because yes, I was the one who said this last time, but I'm also one of the few girls on here who didn't change their names. It's just making me giggle that jrsy is quoting me on advice for something that I didn't even do. Obviously, the question comes up a lot if even I was able to answer it last time.

Get the triple seal-my DMV made me have the triple seal to get a new license (in MD). I also needed it for the bank to change my name. Credit card companies I just phoned it and it was fine. My job I only needed the license that the minister gave me.

I also suggest spending the $10 for the triple seal. Everyone has had different experiences with their changes, so you never really know exactly. The SS office told me they need a copy that has your ages and/or birthdates on it, due to post-9/11 requirements in addition to the increase in fraud/identity theft over the years. I sprung for the triple seal, I didn't want to waste any time only to be told I needed something I didn't have.
