went there for a wedding, the bride and groom paid for it on their own, but it was pretty bad, cocktail hour was aweful, no passed hor doirves, just a couple tables with fruit, dinner was no choice just a piece of chicken and thing of beef, both were average, desert was just their cake.  It could have just been that they couldnt afford anything more, but it was pretty bad.

But when people post about perona, you will inevitably get the standard, they have great food cause their salmon is used at the oscars or something.

That's obviously the bride and grooms choice Brad. I'm sure there's not one venue in NJ where that cocktail hour and one choice for the meal is the "normal" menu.

I've never been there myself but I have a friend who used to work there on weekends as a server and she would always say how nice it was.

I'd also like to add, if you decide to have your reception there....please take a photo just like this for me! haha It's taken at Perona Farms.  I love it so much....I would have loved to have a barn to take a pic like this on my wedding day.

I had my reception there. It was great. We don't have any complaints (except don't use Banquet Manager Kate. She really screwed things up for us, but they went above and beyond to correct it). I have a full review in my bio. The food was fabulous however I think the space needs to be updated some.
They do have 2 weddings at once, but everything is separate. Separate entrances, bathrooms, coat checks, everything. If you have any specific questions, email me wedding 1208@gmail . com

That's funny that you say that about Kate.  i had an appointment there and was supposed to meet with Kate.  She kept me waiting for almost an hour and then one of the owners took me around with no apology for the "mixup".

Brad  - that sounds more like the choices the B&G made rather than the place.

I had heard rave reviews from so many people about Perona Farms.  But when we went there, we honestly were a little disappointed, especially after hearing a lot of good things from other people. Their packages didn't seem to offer much, and as someone else mentioned, it was a little run down and could use some updates.

The barn picture above looks fabulous - but when you actually see it in person, it looks like it's falling apart.

But everyplace is different because everyone sees something different.  When you go to a place, you will know, you'll just get that vibe.  You just need to check places out and do comparisons.

We did a comparison of Mayfair Farms, Perona Farms, Atrium and Primavera.  We wound up going with the Primavera hands down.  They have beautiful grounds and a beautiful venue and no other place could beat what they offerered for the price.  I have heard nothing but good reviews about the place and we went to a food tasting a couple months ago and the food was amazing.

Good luck on your search!  I'm sure wherever you decide will be fabulous!

I am getting married there in June. I don't know what Brad is talking about because the cocktail hour comes standard with like 2 specialty/carving stations (pasta and salmon, I think), 6 or 8 hot chaffing dishes, and something like 12 passed hors d'ourveurs. Dinner has many options, we're having a 4oz lobster tail starter, a mixed greens salad, a combo of filet mignon and chicken, and for dessert everyone gets a piece of cake with four additional petit fours on the plate, plus they bring out plates of cookies and patries for each table later in the evening. The grounds are beautiful, lots of places to take pictures outdoors and indoors. I didn't really think the interior needed to be updated at all. It is clean and well maintained, the colors are bright and airy (at least in the big room where we're getting married). And the price is right. We're working with Jonathan, who has been fabulous. You should really check it out for yourself if you're interested. Any venue will get both rave reviews and crap reviews on this board, so you really need to decide what's best for you based on your own experience there not someone elses.

Was there last yr, cocktail hour was outside, it was tight, and food was soso.

Dinner was better, but the room was long and narrow and awkward for dancing.

user is right, the room is long and narrow...but perfect for a wedding of no more than 120 people.  they are reasonable priced...i would consider perona farms if you are located in sussex county.

Hi guys - I want to get married at Perona Farms but the contract gives absolutely no specifics on the menu.  Did you have this experience?  Usually places tell you specifically what they will give you?  Is this a problem?
  • edited December 2011
I'm pretty sure the food offered is seasonal, so tastings aren't done until a couple of weeks before the event. They should have at least given a sample menu.

One of the couples on "My Big Friggin' Wedding" got married here. I think the wedding will be shown in the next episode, because they had the rehearsal in the previous one. I'm surprised PF agreed to be filmed for this abhorrent show! (And more surprised that I still watch it.... :/ )

And if they still offer a limited food option, that actually is a good thing. Not everyone getting married wants the Extravagant Wedding Package that guarantees people will have had their fill before the main course (and that at many places is the only option).
