NFP- Happily surprised

NFP is a mandatory class where I am and I have to say while I was looking forward to learning the information I was concerned about the delivery.

For medical reasons (not made up, chronic, complicated, and no... vitamins won't fix it) I've been on BC for a long time. I have talked with my doctors about changing that but it'll be a while before that happens.

So FI and I really like the instructors and material after the first class (2 to go). The information is interesting. Now we are talking about the many factors that would lead to trying NFP.

I've just seen a lot of people had bad experiences so I wanted to state for the record that we've had a very good experience so far. Also... did anyone else notice almost all the people asking questions were the men? That surprised me.

The NFP class we took the Husband did most of the talking and seemed a lot more knowlegeable than his wife. It took me by suprise also, but I thought it had a great influence on my husband and took some of the akwardness out of it.

Glad you had a good experience, sounds like you had an open mind and that helps.

About the BC, don't feel like you need to apologize to anyone. A priest explained it us this way (ironically during a pro life presentation about the elderly, but thats a different story). You shouldn't take BC if your primary reason is to prefent conception. However there are many things, out side of BC, that can may be necesary but can cause temporary sterility. Its simply a side effect of the treatment for whatever you have.

That's really great to hear! So many people are turned off before they even know what NFP is all about - it's great to hear a story of someone who went in with an open mind.

FWIW - most of the ladies here that challenge those on BCP don't do so because they think that person is making up their health issues. Unfortunately these days, many doctors do not even realize that the BCP ISN'T the only or best option - it's just become so common that it's the typical prescription. While there are cases where the upsides of BCP outweigh the downsides (I 'think' endometriosis is one of them?), many times BCPs actually prevent you from resolving the health issue, while NFP can help diagnose, monitor and improve your reproductive health. So, I guess what I'm saying here is the ladies are trying to help when they question the "motives". Simply because BCP is overused and knowledge of NFP is minimal and is often splattered with misconception.

I hope that whatever it is you are suffering from gets resolved and I hope your classes continue to be rewarding for you and your FI!

Thank you for saying this much better than I could have. Additionally, I just want to clarify that the NFP treatments for reproductive health conditions are not just vitamins and nutrition. Sometimes those things can help, but sometimes real medical treatment is necessary and used.

Yeah- it's great to have knowledgable instructors and I appreicate the low key environment (it's just how we like to be in the rocky mountains).
